Hello,
A few days ago we noticed one of our roosters sleeping a lot during the day and not moving very much when I approached it. We decided to isolate it, not knowing what is wrong with him. Since we are currently raising chicks and ducklings, we have starter feed that I’ve been feeding him orally with a syringe. I expected him to pass away within a few hours but he’s holding on with no change. His poop is white and runny, no blood. His crop is empty and I can feel his breast bone very prominently. I don’t see any lice or mite evidence but figured I would dust him anyway. Im going to pick up deworming today as a precautionary. Anything else I can do?

Welcome to BYC. Sorry about your sick rooster. It would be good to have a few more details, such as his age, and if he could be getting kept from food and water by the other roosters or hens. I would separate him in a dog crate, but keep him with the others in the coopr or run. Give him a few drops of Poultry NutriDrench, and offer some cooked egg, fresh water, and a watery mash of chicken feed mixed with water. Pictures of him might help. Is he able to walk normally, and are his eye and nostrils clear?

Thank you for replying. I’m not too sure on his age, he was given to us about ten months ago, already fully grown. I wondered if he was being kept from food or water also, but have not witnessed this. He is able to walk and stand but doesn’t for very long. His feet are good, no injuries or issues. His eyes and nose are clear. His comb seems darker and a little swollen, but I don’t know if I’m just looking for signs...

Pics? Age?

age? He doesn't look that bad from the pic... Have you ever had marecks? Any funny noises or loud breathing? Sores in the mouth?
Unfortunately I’m not sure on the age. Maybe about 2? No sores. No noises or loud breathing. Aside from not really being able to stay awake and not eating or drinking on his own I don’t see any visual signs. I don’t know what marecks is.

I would suggest scrambling an egg or two and giving it to him, were no others can reach him.
He’s in a coop by himself now. I tried giving him a scrambled egg but he won’t eat it. I tried to put some in his beak but he just shook it off. I left a little bit in the coop for him and he’s sleeping on it :-/
