I originally joined this group because I had a sick bird. But by the time I joined it at already given the bird a shot of penicillin last night. The bird was very lethargic not moving not eating not drinking. I thought the hen might have been egg bound because she didn't lay the night before. And then I found her in the coop laying on the ground with a broken egg behind her. So I did give her some dervet penicillin .20 cc's. And as I expected I woke up this morning and the bird is back on her feet.

I definitely look forward to being part of the group asking questions and supporting as much as I can. I've known a lot about birds all my life mostly pigeons I'm in a lot of pigeon clubs. So I kind of understand Birds. But in the pigeon Club we don't run a hospital we usually call them if they're sick to save the flock.

Welcome To BYC

I'm glad to hear that your hen is doing better.

Sounds like she may have been egg bound and was able to expel the egg.

It's a good idea to provide her with extra calcium for a few days. You can give 1 Calcium Citrate with D3 once daily for a week.
See that she's eating her normal feed, drinking well and that her crop is emptying overnight.

Hope she continues to stay well:)
