Lethargic chick!!!! Please help!!!

It sounds to me as if she isn't getting enough water. Are the chicks staying under the light or are they moving away from it? It may be too warm for them. Something you could try is either using a dropper or the tip of your little finger and putting a drop of water on the side of her beak. Not near the nostrils. See if she will take water that way right now. Sometimes they are pushed away from the water by the other chicks and just need a bit of a hand to get them back on track.

I would still get the Sav-a-Chick and if the chicks are avoiding the light, raise it a bit and see if that helps. it may be too warm in the brooder.

i had kinda the same problem it was my first time. i had 4 chicks and 1 of them seemed like it couldnt walk and just went to sleep and when i picked her up she kinda perke up and moved around sligthly then sadly it died an the same thing happined to another and another they both died aswell i was sooooooo ****** off at that time i tougth they hatded me and wanted to die (joking) but i talked to somebody who new alot it was that they were 2 cold omg i said when they got to cold there blood vessels would shrink and the circulation would go they would get extremly weak at that point and die i ill no next time hope your 1 gets better

The the others are acting okay I think, two and the lethargic aracuana are dozing by the waterer (farthest away from the lamp), the other is asleep underneath the light. I've just tried to get her drink and refuses with this little sharp trilling noise. I'm moving the heat lamp up right now.... how much higher should I adjust it?

sometimes chicks just go for a power nap anywhere and wake up 5 minits later when they fall head first into the ground of water funny to watch. lol

Whoa! She was just near the waterer and bobbled on over to the feeder, I moved a chick out of the way so she could feed and is now eating away and even picking at the others a bit. She's even standing, she's a little bit slow and her chirps are a little more pronounced but I'm going to get some Sav- a chick just in case and keep an eye on her.

Since I've adjusted the lamp she's been very loud , hopefully it was just a power nap, they are rather cute when they fall asleep...

Just reading your post....and looking for an answer for my week old with the same symptoms. Mine is just laying there....with eyes shut. She does perk up when I pick her up..and peeps a bit...but not much. I tried to (and she wanted to..)sit up...but then she fell over a few seconds later.(I did catch her.. ...She also took a little water from a syringe. I am thinking of adding some sugar, too. Although I am thinking mine is injured somehow. We changed/cleaned out the pen today...and gave them some grass time (in a 4X4 area)..and I am thinking she might have been trampled on. She is a little smaller than the others....but there are 21 of them...and they were SO excited with the grass. This bird was one of my more active and busy birds....and this came on while they were all outside. Not sure what to do either...I am new to this game as well....and I see there are SO many things that could go wrong!
Good luck with yours...guess we will both be quickly gaining some knowledge!

I use clear plastic totes to brood my chicks and in one of those, you don't need a 250 watt heat lamp, unless they are in an unheated building. Right from the incubator, I use between a 100 watt down to a 40 watt to obtain a comfortable temperature for them. You should have a thermometer to check the actual temps in the brooder. Follow the guidelines for age and temperature, but also watch the chicks. After the first week they will let you know how much is too much. If they are staying on the outside of the light circle constantly....use a smaller watt bulb in the light socket. If they are huddling together in a pile underneath it....use a larger watt bulb.

Sav-a-Chick is something I always have on hand, but I also use another product, Durvet vitamins and electrolytes. This is powder with a scoop that makes it a whole lot easier to give the correct amount in the 1 quart chick waterers. Good stuff, very good stuff.
