Lethargic chick!!!! Please help!!!

Just reading your post....and looking for an answer for my week old with the same symptoms. Mine is just laying there....with eyes shut. She does perk up when I pick her up..and peeps a bit...but not much. I tried to (and she wanted to..)sit up...but then she fell over a few seconds later.(I did catch her.. :) ...She also took a little water from a syringe. I am thinking of adding some sugar, too. Although I am thinking mine is injured somehow. We changed/cleaned out the pen today...and gave them some grass time (in a 4X4 area)..and I am thinking she might have been trampled on. She is a little smaller than the others....but there are 21 of them...and they were SO excited with the grass. This bird was one of my more active and busy birds....and this came on while they were all outside. Not sure what to do either...I am new to this game as well....and I see there are SO many things that could go wrong!
Good luck with yours...guess we will both be quickly gaining some knowledge!
Sugar water is fine for a quick fix until you can get something else, but all it is is carbs, no other nutritional value at all. Sav-a-Chick is a better alternative as it has everything they need. She may have been hurt. Did you check her legs? Try to move first one, gently and then the other. Any reaction? If she isn't up and moving today, you may have to separate her from the rest so she can heal. Again, I use the clear totes and this is the reason I do. If one has to be separated from the others, it's very easy to place the containers close to each other so they can still see each other. This helps with adding the chick back into the flock, later after she heals up.

One question...do you have your chicks on medicated feed?

Help! I have a one week old Sussex chick. This morning she started sneezing, and this afternoon I've noticed she is having watery droppings and falling over a bit when trying to get up or walking. She is drinking and eating.

First, you should post this under Emergencies and Diseases separately from this thread. You will get more answers and help that way.

How many other birds are with this chick? Where did they come from and I assume you have had them from the start? it sounds like a sinus issue but it could also be one of the respiratory diseases chickens get. More info is needed for better help.

Where are they, a brooder? What is the feed? Any others showing symptoms of any kind?

They are in a brooder. Medicated chick food. Got her from a lady that sells chicks. She was four days old when I got her on Friday evening. She is now shaking.

5. I have two others I got from her, and three I had that are a little older than the three from the seller. Should I get an antibiotic?

So you are not caught without emergency supplies again, I would make a list of things to have on hand. I always have Duramycin-10, Sav-a-Chick vitamins, Durvet vitamins and electrolytes, Blu-Kote, neosporin, betadine, peroxide, alcohol and Safguard goat wormer. This is my core medical kit, from here you add as you need or think of something. Reading the threads on BYC is going to give you a better idea of what you will need in your supplies you always have on hand.

If you know the person you bought these chicks from, I would talk to them and let them know what has happened. In the future, please do not add new chickens to your flock for at least 3 weeks. You need to keep them completely away from any others, to make sure they aren't sick and bringing awful things in to the rest of you flock.
