Hey everyone, I'm new here and this is not my first choice of posts and I would rather it be a more happy one.... but I need some help.

My 5 day old Aracauna chick is acting lethargic and sleepy, and she never moves and lays on her stomach twittering (right now she has stopped and is barely pipping...). She was fine last night, but now we have to place her by the feeder or water for to eat or drink, and now she has stopped eating. The other three chicks appear fine and are running around like usual. The chick in question also is the smallest. Is there anything I can do to help or do I have to accept that some chicks just don't make it?

Thank you for reading this post and for any advice you can give, I really appreciate it.

They appear ordinary, but this morning they were small (no bigger than a pea) and a little on the dry side and an hour ago it was small but with a little more moisture than the last one. She perks up when I hold her, but goes right to sleep when I put her back...

Thank you for responding :)

I'm new to chicks... We had them when I was little, but we never had this kind of problem. What does sugar water do? I don't have access to a vet at the moment.

I am new also, but I've read a lot. I would try sugar water or go to a feed store for a nutri drench or probiotics. For sugar water I put 1.5 tablespoons in a quart of plain white sugar.

Thanks, I'll try that, though I might have to accept that since she is a small one she may not make it, my dad reminded me that some just don't make it. I really appreciate the help and I'm going to try out your advice.

Make sure the chicks butt is clear and clean. What is the temp in the brooder? If possible get some Sav-a Chick and add that to the water for them. It has all the vitamins and electrolites they need. Tractor Supply carries it as do other grain stores.
