Lethargic chick

Well she's still here. The clicking has lessened. She's still sleeping most of the time, but we were able to get quite a bit of electrolyte solution into her yesterday evening. She was a little pasty again this morning but cleaned off pretty easily. She's not getting any worse, so I'm a little hopeful.

I'm so glad to hear that. We just lost a chick to similar symptoms. He lasted about a day after we noticed he was sick. My friend found him asleep on his back and when I turned him over he just flopped onto his face. He never even opened his eyes, he was so weak. I had my dad take care of him.
I hope yours does better.

She's still here. She's still so small, although I think she may have grown ever so slightly. I separated her for about a day and a half, but she seemed so lonely; so I put her back in with the others. She was obviously much happier. She's eating and drinking and seems more steady on her feet. She also doesn't stand off by herself very much now; she hangs out with the group now. I am assuming she'll eventually catch up in size; right now she's about half the size of the other chicks. I am happy with how she's doing so far.

I have a Golden Laced Polish chick that was shipped to me. It arrived today, and thanks to this post, I am offering some sugar water. What is the sugar to water ratio you used, and how often to you hand water her? Mine is not eating or drinking on her own, very lethargic, and doesn't seem to be doing well at all. I have her separated from the other chicks. I had a speckled sussex that was DOA and another that died not long after I brought her home. She was showing the same signs (though more progressed). She couldn't be saved, I'm sad to say, but I'm hoping I still have a chance to save the little polish.

So I have a little one She is about a week old she is the smallest of the 11 I have. We noticed she is sleeping allot her beak was pale I syringed her some water gave her a grape which seemed to pep her up some I put her back with the other is her own special box. There is a tiny bit of egg in there I saw her peck at. Any ideas. Maybe she is just pushed out cause she is the smallest?

you seem to know your stuff! Im hoping you can help me out with a chick thats been showing some problems. Gwen is about a 5 week old PR hen, and lately shes been puffed up, trying to sleep while standing up. She peeps almost constantly and when i go to hold her she snuggles right up as if shes cold. once in a while i do hear little cracking noises from her beak but the others do that so i assume its fine.. Gwen is usually the most sprite chick out of the 4 we have, i would greatly appreciate any advice you have!

I have a chick now with somewhat the same issue. Part of a mixed age group that is now outside. Inside the sleeping area there is a ceramic heat emitter for warmth. The older chicks have a lot of feathers and are leaping about and half flying. The younger ones are about two weeks old now. All have been very active and running about and eating/scratching normally. They go back into the heated area at night on their own. Yesterday morning, one of the older chicks was puffed up, lethargic and not running around with the others. Just standing motionless. I picked it up and I could hear "clicking" when it was breathing and the breathing seemed a bit labored. No pasty butt or anything else but something was very wrong. I took a large, single drop of Tylan mixed with 4 more drops of water and got it all down it's throat with a fine catheter tube. Set it back in under the heater and left it alone. Today, it is still a little puffed but now following the others around, scratching and actively eating. Still isn't 100% right but it's a big improvement over yesterday. Will be monitoring it for a few more days and will give another drop of Tylan in a week or maybe a little less.
