One of my hens is just standing in the same spot and closes her eyes now and then. She is drinking but not eating and she normally never passes up food. There is nothing visibly wrong with her. Any suggestions? I put her in our basement for now where is it a little warmer.

Along with the other questions above are there any signs of molting? I have one who just entered a hard molt the last few days, feeling very sorry for herself indeed, poor thing. She was acting off the few days leading up to that too. But she had not molted yet so I had a good idea/hoped that was all it was. Offer her some cooked egg... in my experience molters would kill for it! Won't harm her either ways.

No signs of molting. She is almost a year old. She has been very healthy until now. She has been laying eggs. She is holding her tail down a little right now and her comb is pale.

Has she recently been laying eggs? How old is she? Try mixing a small bowl of chicken feed plus a lot of water to offer her. Also some chopped scrambled egg is usually accepted well.

I’m going to try the scramble eggs now. Her comb is pale and her tail is down a little. Hopefully I can get her to eat the egg and get some energy to fight what ever is going on.

Do you know when she last laid? What does her crop feel like? Any swelling in her belly? What does her poop look like? Sorry for all the questions but necessary.

Not sure when she laid last because she was in with the others. She has not pooped since I brought her in 6 hours ago. She will drink but I can’t get her to eat anything. Her back end might be a little swollen. Her chest is fine.

Sounds possibly egg bound! Can you carefully check for an egg? Lube your finger (gloves), insert into vent 1 to 2 inches straight in to see if there is an egg. Have you a Tums or a calcium supplement? I would give her one anyway. If egg bound it's urgent!
