Hi there! I know this is a super old post (hurray for thread resurrection!!), but I have a duckling that is apparently doing the same thing as yours was. We adopted her and she is about 2.5 weeks old. We were told she was blind. I have some doubts about that, but that's another topic. She was 100% fine with we brought her home. She found food and water quickly in the brooder. We have had her for 3 days now. Today, she is listless with her head drooping, can't peep, won't eat. Just as yours was doing.UPDATE, so apparently because of the horrible conditions she was exposed to as a hatchling...she developed encephalitis...and will now have permanent short term paralysis spells. They are short...an hour or two at most. This has happened 3 times since being a week old...and happen about once a week. We are to help bring her back from a spell by fluid therapy (offering her water and syringe dropping). So far this has worked every time. She is currently running around her little indoor house like it never happened...happy as a clam.I am so glad we rescued her from the environment she was in (was covered in fire ants at the time of the rescue)...else she would have probably not survived. This is something we are willing to work with as she is an indoor duck and we have, already become attached.![]()
Thanks for the quick responses!!Will keep everyone updated on her status.![]()
So I'm wondering how you discovered she had encephalitis?? Was there anything you added to the water for your fluid therapy? And how did she do long term?
I realize this thread was started in 2011 and it's been 12 years, I hope she has a long and full life with you. I am just hoping that you might be able to offer a little insight. Thank you for your time!
