Hi All - I have a 6 month old rooster that has a pale comb. Since last night he lays in the corner of the coop. He will not get up to eat or drink. Last week he was attacked by another rooster (part of his comb was damaged). He has been normal since then however and I don't think he has an infection from the attack but I could be wrong. Looks healthy as far as not having mites or fleas. Any other suggestions?

Provide it with poultry nutri-drench if you have any, or get some Save-A-Chick Probiotic Digestive Supplement. I'm thinking it's something to do with his digestive system. It could have 'impacted crop' issue?

Welcome to BYC. As you know mature roosters will fight each other, and the loser will have to be submissive or will be run off. I would separate him in his own pen or dog crate with food and water of his own, and let him recover. Will he eat or drink anything? Electrolytes or 2-3 ml of Poultry NutriDrench daily might give him a boost for a few days. Most chickens will eat chopped scrambled egg, tuna, sunflower kernels, and some wet chicken feed. If he got his clock cleaned or has internal injuries, he may need some time by himself. What are your plans for him? When I was hatching chicks, I used to have to separate my extra cockerels around 4 months, or they would drive the hens crazy. Most flocks will only tolerate one rooster. I have had 2 or 3 in a large flock, but the the others will have to act submissive and stay out of the head rooster’s way.

A picture of him, comb that was injured & his poop ...
Check his crop in the morning (should be empty) and night (should be full). What does his crop feel like, squishy or hard?

Shame Hybrid is right, get some Nutri Drench, a drop on the beak if he won't drink. What are you feeding? Try wetting his feed, making a mash. Scrambled eggs and tuna is a favorite and good protein.

EDITED: Eggcessive post showed up and she's got it all covered.

We're down to one rooster and I've got him separated from the rest of the flock today. I'm going to try some rooster booster to get him to drink. Someone suggested de-worming him also. I'll try the mash that was mentioned to get him to eat. Thank you!
