LETHARGIC ROOSTER

I know it is so weird have been raising baby chickens for about two years now and have never had anything like this happen before to a bird his size... all the other chickens I had in the coop with him are acting fine aswell

But I have been away for five days and i pay a lot more attention to the way my chickens act then my husband does so i am not sure 100% how he has been acting the last few days.

Can he move either his legs or wings? Is is hot today where you live? Could other roosters have kept him from getting to water or food? Dehydration or heat exhaustion would be the first things I would consider, getting fluids into him by dropping a drop at a time into his beak, or dipping his beak into a small cup or bowl of water. If he cannot move his extremeties at all, botulism, Mareks disease, moldy feed poisoning, or an injury should be ruled out.

it is hot out today it was about 90 outside he is in a coop with one other rooster that is younger than him... I finally managed to get him to take some water with durvet vitamins and electrolytes in it he took a long sleep now he is moving around a little and eating some hopefully he will be ok :fl thanks guys i will keep yall updated @Eggcessive do you think the younger rooster could be the problem i have never seen them fighting

I would just keep an eye on them. When I have raised multiple cockerels together in a large flock, eventually they get rowdy and run each other and the hens around. I always place multiple water bowls and feed in several spots just so eceryone gets to eat. At 4-5 months they need to be separated because they tend to fight the head rooster or among themselves. Hopefully, your little guy will perk up with the electrolytes, some chopped egg and feed.

i think i will just separate them to be on the safe side don't want to lose either of them gonna keep him in for awhile to keep an eye on him thank you all for your help

update on my sick rooster he hasn't had an improvement he actually started having a new symptom last night he had a clear bad smelling fluid coming from his mouth he has stopped eating I started him on an antibiotic last night... should I continue giving him the vitamins and electrolytes with a syringe since he started antibiotics I have never had a sick chicken like this before?

Can you look inside his beak and throat with a flashlight next time you are with him? Again feel his crop to check if it may be puffy or full and hard. What are his present symptoms, any improvement in moving around or eating and drinking?

i tried to look inside his beak and throat and could not see anything but today is his secound day on antibiotics and he has improved a lot he is up moving around most of the day every once and a while he will act tired but he is finally eating and drinking on his own thank god going to continue his treatment for the whole 7 days and hope that he keeps getting better... thank you all for all you advice and help
