My Silkie chick is acting lethargic; I thought that it was just sleepy but I tried to pick her up; she didn’t even open her eyes. She still can, I saw her do so, but when I put her back down she staggers about a little bit and goes back to sleep. I thought she might be thirsty so I dipped her beak in the water, then added homemade electrolytes and dipped it again. Then I picked her up again and noticed she was breathing through her mouth and some of the water was bubbling back out of it a little. She wasn’t breathing through her mouth all the time; just opening it every breath. I don’t know if they were vaccinated, I got them at TSC so probably not? I also refilled the feed but she’s not interested.

She was just found dead. She looked to have just lain down on her side, no thrashing oe anything. I would still take advice though so I can prevent it if I see it again. :(

How old is your chick?
Is she a lone chick or are there others (breeds)?

Is her butt clear of pasting?
How warm is you brooder?

If you can provide some photos of your brooder and the chick that would be good.

Oh No! I'm so sorry :hugs

We were posting at the same time.
With small chicks it's very hard to know. Shipping stress and failure to thrive are possibilities.
If you still want to share photos, that would be o.k.
