So recently here in New England our weather has began to get a bit cold. Friday night into Saturday we got over an inch of rain and Saturday morning I found one of my silkies crouched with it’s wings hanging down covered in mud/dookie. I brought it in, warmed and cleaned it up, and it went back outside seemingly fine. This morning I went out and again this same silkie was standing lethargic with wings down not moving.

I’ve got 2 thoughts on what could be happening right now.1)this silkie has some sort of infection (saw it drool? Yesterday) or 2) it’s getting out of the coop at night and having a hard time regulating it’s temperature.

I intend on setting up a camera tonight to see if it leaves the coop and that’s what’s causing it’s strange behavior. Regardless id like to get this silkie back to normal.

She's sick. She has signs of infection or possibly is egg bound if she's an active layer.

Also, you might want to rule out crops disorders by checking her crop now and again in the morning to see if it empties overnight.

You need to give her a top to bottom inspection. Look for a full, hard, lumpy crop. Look for wet butt feathers and a discharge from the vent. Look at her face for swelling and discharge from orifices.

No discharge, today she did the same exact thing as yesterday. Got warm inside, went back out and partied with her flock. I posted a camera at the coop door so I’ll be able to see if she’s getting out in the night.
