Lethargic Wyandotte… possible mold exposure or…?

It can be hard to identify the cause of a slow crop. Sometimes it's only a crop issue from an impaction or something they ate, other times it slows down because the bird is sick from a completely unrelated illness.

If what remains in her crop feels hard I'd get a little water or oil into her and try to break it up and get it to move along. If it already feels soft/malleable I would try cleaning out her system with a crop flush. If she responds well to it (or at least not negatively) I usually give two flushes a day for two days. Just make sure she also gets some fresh water in between and keep an eye out for weakness and dehydration.

I did the 2 sessions of coconut oil and massage and it didn’t seem to help much so I did the docusate sodium w/massage which also didn’t help so I added some more coconut oil then massaged again.

Her crop seems like it’s finally ALMOST empty…. like there’s still a very small amount of something in it. Is that normal for empty?

Her behavior has greatly improved! She started pecking at things and moving around! Even talking a little. I’m very pleased with her behavior. I left an egg yolk in a dish for her and she’s eating that.

Update: she’s not doing well. Her crop seems to have increased in size despite her eating nothing. I will have to try the flush next.

I did the flushes. It’s not helping. I noticed earlier today that her belly feels like a large water balloon and now her crop feels like a small water balloon. Her crop gurgles when I massage it. Her face and comb are becoming a darker red. Any advice?

Photos of her poop and of her too please?

Does she have any bloat or feeling of fluid in her abdomen below the vent between her legs?

Has she been able to drink on her own during the period of you administering coconut oil and flushes or have you been having to syringe fluids into her?
I would work on hydration, give her plain water to drink and some wet feed to eat.
No more flushes for now.

Sorry your girl isn't doing well. It sounds like she has ascites (aka water belly) which might be the cause of her slow crop. Ascites is fluid buildup in the body cavity and can occur with reproductive issues, heart or liver failure, infections, and probably a number of other diseases I don't know about. If the fluid builds up too much it presses on the internal organs causing problems and eventually death. If it seems like she has a lot of fluid (very heavy in the back end, trouble walking, etc) you can drain off some of the fluid with an 18 gauge needle and a syringe (videos of the procedure on youtube). This will relieve the pressure and make her feel a lot better, but is only a temporary treatment and not a cure for whatever the root problem may be.

Here are the requested photos. Her abdomen feels like a water balloon.

She isn’t drinking on her own so I’ve been giving water with a syringe. I added some electrolytes this evening.

How is she doing now?

I'd make sure to get some plain water into her since you gave epsom salts which can be dehydrating.
I'd also get some Calcium into her. Give her 1 Calcium Citrate tablet now, then once daily.

Hard to tell if she's having difficulty with an egg or possibly lash material.
Feeling of fluid in the abdomen could indicate a reproductive disorder and/or organ dysfunction.
Draining her and giving an oral antibiotic may be a practical step to take to see if she improves. While draining the fluid is not a cure, it may make her more comfortable for a period of time.

Have you ever dewormed?

No, I’ve never had to deworm.

I bought a needle/syringe today so I drained her this evening. The liquid is very dark- almost black (picture). From what I’ve read that means infection?

I didn’t want to take too much so I maybe got a cup out. There is so much that her belly feels like I took nothing.

I gave her amoxicillin-clavulanate potassium because that’s all I have on hand.

She’s not touching any food. I’m forcing water into her. She’s already so skinny that I wonder if she’ll starve to death. Should I force feed some yolk?

I should drain more tomorrow, right? I don’t know what else to do…
