Lethargy and pale combs

My sister's chickens are getting lethargic and have very pale combs. She's tried electrolytes band probiotics. Told her to look for mites. Said she saw red buggies. Sent her to pick up some DE. Any other possibilities? Can mites kill off chickens?

De will not kill the mites, tell her to get a permethrin powder or spray.
Yes they can suck the life right out of them.
