If you get "Ameraucanas" from a hatchery they are NOT REAL Ameraucanas. They ARE EEs. It is that simple. There are so many threads out there that explain the differences between the 3 breeds. Some I just get tired of saying it over and over again of what the differences are of the 3 breeds. I am not trying to say that people are stupid for not knowing the differences but there a lot of threads it is hard not to notice them. I know that some people do not know better but I hope that this thread will help them understand.

A lot of people just dont know. Sometimes at auctions they sell them as Ameraucanas or Aracaunas so thats what people think they are. Its the hatcheries fault cause they advertise them like that.

So how about some pics accentuating the differences.
I am aware that Aruacana 's have no butt/ tail. I am not aware of the differences of the EE and the Ameruacana. If I take my Aruacana roo and breed him to a standard Plymouth Rock what are the offspring called? I thought that was how you got and Ameruacana. So again I ask if you have pics lets see them side by side.

How do the hatcheries get away with selling a mutt as a purebred? In any other industry they would all be jailed for fraud, especially in interstate commerce. I would think this would be a real biggie. I have never understood why this practice continues.

A bit frustrated there, Maxx?

Here is the link to the Standard for the Ameraucana. http://www.ameraucana.org/standard.html

An Ameraucana is not a crossbreed. An EE is. An EE is what hatcheries sell. An EE has no standard. And Araucana is a different breed than the Ameraucana with different standards. Two true and very different breeds are Ameraucanas and Araucanas. This is one of the most discussed subjects under Breeds here. You can take a weekend and research it on BYC. It may take longer.

part of the problem is the three types, names, are used interchangeability, even those that know the difference do it, the hatcheries do it because it get those who don't know the difference buy what they think is a pure bred, it also happens with RIR's and any other breed that a cross looks almost the same as a pure bred
Its the person new to chickens that make the mistake, because they don't know the difference, its up to those of us who do know the difference to help those who don't ,even if it takes repeating it alot

To make it even worse, not all Araucanas are rumpless ! The Araucanas in Australia have tails. I love my Araucana and his cross bred daughters. 90% of my Araucana crosses are rumpless. . . .

Ask polochic and lorir if they are pretty or not, they have some of my pullets now.

M to the Maxx - Don't be so frustrated.

Most of us who make that mistake are "New Eggs".

We are lied to by goggle searches and the hatcheries themselves.

We quickly learn what is what when we join the BYC community.

The more seasoned members have a responsibilty to educate the "new eggs".
People don't know to research it because they don't know it is an issue until
somebody informs them that there is a difference.

BE PATIENT - - - you are not repeating the same statement over and over and over
to the same person. Every time you say it - - you are TEACHING somebody new.
TEACHING is a very honorable profession that requires LOTS of PATIENCE.

BYC is now over 50,000 members. EVENTUALLY, we - the BYC Members - will get the message out
to the whole world that Chickens from hatcheries are EE's.
