I would recommend not keeping them on newspaper because newspaper can be slippery for them and that can lead to splayed legs. You can use textured paper towels instead.

Are their legs black, too? How many toes do they have?

Oh, yes.. Thanks for the reminder. These are in my sisters classroom in Colorado. I will tell her to get them off newspaper.
