Mixed bunch of three week old poults I ordered from Porter's, an assortment of whatever was handy in June--so we've got surprises to look forward to when they grow up. The brown striped/spotted ones seem to be more intelligent than the others, though: they are more curious about new food dishes. The white ones seem more friendly and interested in the Pyrenees and the rooster that patrol the barn, less frightened of the giant barking drooling thing.

I think they're called carbuncles, wattles, and a snood (over the beak).

It's an ongoing process taking a year or more. One way to tell the age of a turkey is look at the length of the beard. They grow about an inch per year with the exception of the White Holland - they grow theirs much faster and longer for some reason, I have checked with other people that have them and the beard seems to grow at least twice as fast. Remember that and if you win a million dollars on a trivia question I get 1/2

Nice pics Rosalind, Did Kevin tell you what he sent you? The White ones should be either Royal Palms or White Holland's. The Palms will get black in the feathers as they grow older- The Hollands are the heavy, stocky, solid poults.

He didn't give me a list, no. There appear to be two that are solid white--I'm guessing those are the White Hollands. Those are the ones that are really friendly with the Pyrenees. Maybe they figure it's safer to be camouflaged in his fur? There are two that may well be Royal Palms, three that could be either Black Spanish or Mottled Black, four sort of khaki-colored ones that are feathering in a kinda grayish-brown speckledy color, two that look like some sort of blue/splash combination (silver dapple?), two that look a bit like Narris, and one that might be calico. The khaki-colored ones don't look like any particular breed yet. At any rate, will be fun to see what they become as they get older!

I've posted some of these before but, they are my favorite M.Gallopavo Propaganda shots:

Here are esome pics of my B.R.'s. They will be thirteen weeks tomorrow.
I think there are four jakes and two hens. Not positive on the two hens as yet.
Here my dh is waiting on the burgers to get done on the grill, everytime he grills the turkeys come to watch. LOL
