Here is my chicken shed.It is an old metal shed that was installed over a concrete base.I cut holes for plexiglass to add a little light.A few small holes for extra air.Added the blue tarp after the latest storm.I have been battling leaks since I first started using the shed last summer.Getting tired of cleaning out the wet shavings after every rain.

My coops are converted sheds. The one on the left was donated (and delivered) by my neighbor. I had to take it apart to get it into the run, and when I did, it wasn't square anymore. Oh, well, it still works!Had to make a door and window, and a floor. It's amazing what you can do with fence pickets. Painted it inside and out, and it's now light and airy. Clear plastic on the roof because it leaks.
The one on the right was here when I moved in, was just an open fronted shelter for a dog. Inside the duplex, I later added 2 chain link dog kennels for better security.

I think this thread is extremely helpful! When we decided to get chickens, the scariest part of it was building a coop. The ones in the coop section all looked so amazing, and we needed to have something functional that didn't cost a lot of money. There are so many great ideas here! Chickens are fun, and their coop doesn't have to be perfect for them to be happy and healthy. Plus, each one of the coops posted here shows a lot of creativity and is unique and functional. That is beautiful!!!!

We ended up with a wood and chicken wire pen and a very secure hen house of press board and two by fours with a slanted roof that lifts up for cleaning. We did paint it red and white like a barn. The best thing about it is the location, though. The birds are under a big pecan tree, so they are in the shade all day during our super-hot summers. They have a garden shed behind them and are situated so they won't get a lot of direct rain and wind in the winter. The girls go right up into the house as soon as it starts to get dark, and we can use the electricity in the shed to turn on a heat lamp if we need it.

Here is my coop. It is an old stucko building and it is really ugly but it works for my chickens and for me. It has two seprate rooms, is not painted and it was free, due to the fact that it was on the place that I bought.
