lets see the "ugly" coops plz

If the chickens are happy that's all that matters! I admire the ingenuity all of you have!

Yeah it is all pretty fun. I like to look at what others are using just to bring ideas to mind and maybe take them in and use them myself. Everyone has some great ideas.

It is 3 am and I can't sleep so I am reading every post on BYC....thought I would add a picture of my coop.

We had a very old chain link dog pen that there had not been a dog in for years. The barn next to our property fell down and DH was given anything he wanted off of it.

So, the coop was built from the tin roof. I love that it is really rustic. I have since added some signs to the side of the coop and will post pics of that someday when I feel like it has all the chicken decor that I want.

This serves us very well....included in our run is an old satellite dish that was out in the woods that we added for shade. The chickens love it and take their dust baths under it and drink water from the lip when it rains....

Hardware cloth was added when we got to town and bought some...old chicken wire to start with.

The dish....

...chickens in the shade...

This is a truely 100% recycled run and coop....

lol well where I live, you'd be calling yourself a Yankee that can hardly read and runs around hanging people while wearing a white hood. And worse. But anyhow yuk it up and call yourself that but don't ever call me one

I've tried to explain that it is offensive to some of us and if you don't get it, then I can't say I didn't try

Anyhow, my ugly coop:

Yes, it does lean. I jacked up one side with a car jack and it leans less (lol). Was originally a shed. Then a horse stall. For storage the last 25 years (which is why all that junk is there - gotta find something to do with that stuff!). Enclosed front with scraps I had around including 1" bird wire but I had to buy a roll of chicken wire to finish it up. The lower part is all the heavy wire at least.

This is the back. The back wall rotted and got pulled off but there's a wall all the same that separates the very back from the main shed. It hasn't been painted in 30 years, other than a few spots someone started to paint then quit. Yes, I do live in the city but luckily, in a neighborhood where we all just mind our own business. The only thing that will get anyone's drawers in an uproar here is noise. And even then, only if it's frequent.

If my house looked like this I think I'd burn it down
LOL

If my COOP looked like that I think I'd burn it down.

I'd salvage from it and sell the wood on the internet as old barn wood for picture frames etc.

I used a 4'X4' puppy pen with a wire floor covered in cardboard bottom and sides when they got too big for the plastic tub. Cardboard is cool. It's disposable and you can compost it or burn it when you're done.
