Lets talk about goats!

I have been looking for some cable spools. I have some pallets and stuff out for them to play on. I will be building some platforms later for them to play on and reach some vegetation I want them to eat.

Don't take it personally. They may be ignoring you now, by eventually they will get curious and start to like you. I know it may seem like it isn't possible, but I promise you they will come around and then will never leave you alone.

Looking a little more lively today. And they figured out they like apples so they were actually interested in me lol.

I do, they love them! I have a huge one they like to sleep on in their shed.

I just got a couple and they seem to like them so far. I'm trying to give them something to do so they wont be as bored, as well as get some exercise. Ive noticed one of my goats resting on the top of the spools. I guess they feel more protected lying down up there.

Hi again! So a couple more questions lol. Sorry I'll probably have a lot of them. The little guy is doing better. Eating out of our had and both were up drinking and eating. The bigger of the two is trying not to walk on a couple hooves. She apparently did the band castration the day before we got them. Can that be why he looks so miserable. I asked if I needed to do any care for it and she said no but I want to make sure. I assumed he was limping a little bit because of it when we got him or possibly trimmed hooves that day because she said she took care of everything and they would be good on shots and everything till September. Worried about the limping.

In my experience, while the kids may be unhappy for a few hours after banding, by the next day at the latest they should be over it. If he just had his hooves trimmed, that is probably why he is limping. It is easy to trim a little too close. In that case he will be over it in a day or two. Be sure to vaccinate your kids with CD/T. That is for tetanus and entero. Ask the person you got the kids for if they have been vaccinated. They need two shots about four weeks apart and then an annual booster. Banding can leave the kids open to tetanus.

I'll try to get picture but my husband has actually seen it before unlike me. Little guy looks like one hoof has it. Freaking out a bit and pretty mad. Doing a bunch of research and just got the stuff for hoof bath. Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks

Dig as much rot out as possible even if you make their feet bleed. Bleeding will promote faster healing. If you don't get most of it out it will just continue to rot the hoof.

We used to use something called Koppertox. It came in a can and was blue. We just put it on the affected feet and it cleared up the affected feet very quickly. I am unsure of the spelling. We got it at the livestock supply.

Dont freak out. It isn't that big of a deal in most cases. Last summer, I was asked to do some trimming on someone's goat that hadn't been trimmed in over a year. Well, we got him up on the stand and I picked out his hooves, trimmed them down, cleaned out the inside of the rotting part, and then sprayed some stuff on it(forget what it was called, it was purple though, probably close to what cassie mentioned above). That was that and he is now healed and walking well.

Thanks! We trimmed and cleaned everything out. Put the only thing they had at tractor supply for it but I'll head to our local feed mill with a better selection. Probably have to trim further but first time ever doing it and didn't want to go to far. Ugh. Poor babies. They did seem happier after it was all cleaned up. Hopefully they don't hold it against us.... We don't think we traumatized them with our first timer fumbling.
