I am feeding the same milk the person I bought them from was feeding them. 2 bottles each day one in the morning and one in the evening. Feed and grazing in between.
Anna - the survivor - is still going strong. Slept great last night and is laying in my arms now. I will start looking for another so she is not alone.

So a couple questions- do y'all shave your Nigerians down in the summer?

Also what is your preferred castration method for the bucklings you decide to weather. I know whatever I do isn't going to be fun for them :/

I dissagree most down where I live sale goat that aren't wean and need to be bottle feed I got my two girls at two days old, my big at three months all needing bottle feeding.

You can do what you like but all my babies are alive and i dont have to be tied down every couple hours feeding baby goats.

I would recommend only clipping for shows. As long as you also provide adequate shelter and water, their coats and body processes are designed to handle cooling for themselves.

Banding is the least traumatic method of castration in my opinion.

The only thing you can do now is just keep a close eye on the one left. I would wait to get another just to make sure she is not also sick and get from a reputable breeder from now on.

I am not sure if I am doing this right today is my first day here. I have a goat question. We bought 2 Nigerian dwarfs yesterday from a breeder at a fleamarket. Two 5 week old sisters who were so adorable. We got them home out them in a warm place, fed them, let them graze for a bit after meeting our other animals (dogs). They were playing and having a great time. This morning one of them didn't seem right and died a few hours later. I just don't understand what could have happened. The other seems fine but not pooping. She is eating playing and walking around but I am so scared of looking her also.

There are a lot of things that can cause sudden death in kids. Pneumonia, entero, floppy kid, selenium deficiency, and coccidiosis to name a few.

I live in central Alabama and have never considered shaving my goats. But I do make sure they have plenty of water and free choice minerals. But that is year round. They will rub the fencing to shed.

It was 80 degrees today and one of them was panting.

Did yours get their vaccinations?
Bottle fed or not I would not let any goat 5 weeks old go.
