Lets talk about goats!

I will feed him more often and see if that helps. And he may be drinking more often than I think, just simply because I’m not out there all the time. I guess my worry is that he isn’t bouncy and silly and just seems sad. Does that make sense?

It is possible he's just missing his momma ... You can give him one b-complex sublingual vitamin twice a day. It will boost his appetite and perk him up a bit. You can get them at Walmart. Labled for adults.

Is that possible? Because my thought was that he could be missing momma, but then thought I was being ridiculous.
Yes it's possible. They are herd animals. And the little ones are, by nature, very attached to mom and the herd. He will get used to the change but may need some extra attention and a friend to play with. It that's not an option. Spend as much time with him as possible.
Also, has he been dewormed?

I have the dewormer ordered. But I also have a bag of deworming pellets. It was recommended to me to use the liquid dewormer 3 times a year and use the pellets in between wormings. I spend a lot of time with him and bring him inside quite a bit. Another baby isn’t out of the question. Our pen is large enough. I’ll go tomorrow to get the b-complex sublingual. Thank you so much for all your help!!

You can use horse paste dewormer. It's all I've used and until recently, I've raised dairy goats for 11 years.
If you want to use it, start with strongid ( that's the name brand) it's marked in 250lb increments. Give half of that to babies up to 6 months, one whole for the rest. I alternate between that and Ivermectin and Ivermectin gold( in the fall for tape worm)
If you can get another his age or close to it, he would benefit greatly...
Good luck! I hope it helps!

I have a question about a 6 week old baby Nubian that I just picked up last weekend. I went out and got all the stuff that I needed to bottle feed... the Pritchard kid nipples, whole milk, buttermilk, evaporated milk (to make the concoction), and a probiotic for little man’s tummy. I knew feeding him was going to be a challenge, as he’s been with momma since birth. In 2 days I had only managed to get a total of 10 ounces into him. The guy we got him from suggested a small amount of sweet grain. And he was already used to nibbling on peanut hay, so we knew he’d munch on what we provided. Because I cannot get him to drink any milk, I give him a daily dose of probiotic, and he’s getting used to the sweet grain twice a day. My question... is this ok for him?

If he doesn't want milk, it means he doesn't need it. As long as he is eating hay and grain, that is fine. Although six weeks may be a little young for him to be weaned, it won't hurt him. I know a long time dairyman and breeder who weaned two particularly big, aggressive, and obnoxious Alpine buck kids (long story) when they were a lot younger than that and they thrived. Since this kid has been on his mother all this time you are not going to get him to take a bottle so don't waste your time.

If you can set up some sort of a hidey hole in the barn for him to crawl in and keep warm it will help. You an use a cardboard box, a plastic barrel, a dog crate, or a couple bales of hay or straw with a piece of plywood on top. He does need a friend.

If you haven't already done so give him a shot of CD/T as soon as you can.
