I'm not to sure if these HUGE eggs where laid by my cuckoo marans hen or my Golden Cuckoo Marans Hens. I have 1 regular cuckoo and 9 GCMs so I'm thinking it was maybe the GCMs since I got one yesterday and one today. THey are HUGE!! My eggs scale couldn't weigh them. So they weigh over 2.5oz. They are a little darker then is showing in the photo. I LOVE my Marans!

wow! those eggs are huge! I cant wait til mine lay, how old were they?

my cuckoos, i did end up with only one hen, she is ALL black tho. her beak, legs, body, so..her name is Crow (hopefully she doesnt do that tho!). She has a weird thing with her right eye, it has been since birth, but the skin is over the eye. it seems better since she has grown, its just not..tucked in.. like the other.. she can still see and is a sweetie. the other 4 boys, are huge... and aggressive. the pick on my BLRW roos something fierce!

My regular cuckoo marans hen is about 7 months old and my GCMs are about 6 months old. I really don't know who laid those eggs but I'm wondering if my cuckoo hen could even lay such HUGE eggs like that 2 days in a row. I didn't even know my GCMs where laying so its a mystery!!

So I've finally read this thread the whole way through! Whew!

I just got my 10 cuckoo marans chicks yesterday. They are hatchery stock pullets, so I completely realize that the quality won't be good. But I have some excellent breeder quality blue coppers and these new 10 are mainly just for brown breakfast eggs. I appreciate all the info provided here!

I have a question. I was accidently sold what I have been told is a cuckoo marans. It was supposed to be a Dominique. Anyway she is 28 weeks old, still not laying but yesterday I was looking at her and it looks like she might have white ear skin. Is that even possible? She is very skiddish so it is really hard to get a picture but I am going to try today. What would she have been crossed with if indeed her ears are white and does this mean she will lay white eggs? I don't breed, I only have 6 chickens for eggs so it doesn't matter, but I am really curious and hope you don't mind my asking on this thread.

white ears popup from time to time....it is a cull point since it would be a DQ. I have seen it popup in other breeds too so it must be pretty common problem in chickens.
