Let's talk Cuckoo and WHITE marans... breeding strategies...

Not that I want to count my chickens before they hatch, but I have 6 pipped CMs. I still have 15-ish under a broody and in the incubator that haven't pipped or won't hatch for another 2-3 days.

Sorry, I was going to take pics and didn't get to it yet.

10 of 13 shipped eggs hatched - 9 are CMs. I have one more CM from that batch that was rocking but nothing since yesterday. My other batch from DMRippy started rocking yesterday as well. Hopefully soon on them! I have no idea what the broodies are doing. I walked in yesterday and there was an egg kicked out. Warm, but not under her. First time moms... -shakes head-

Picture time!



I have a black and buff Columbian bantam Cochin in there and I got an Ameraucana x Orloff cross as a bonus egg (in front of the buff Columbian bantam Cochin). The disheveled one, 3rd from the right in the back, was stuck in the shell and I had to help it out.

Is the 'blue' colored one a double cuckoo cockerel? As far as I know the breeder doesn't have blues.
ETA: Found out the hen responsible for the blue chick may be a blue copper.​

Four more hatched from Donna's eggs. I have no idea what's going on under my broody. I have been leaving her be. My daughter said one was pipped yesterday. I will check for chicks tomorrow. I have 2 more eggs in my incubator, but I think they are quitters. I will let them have another day or 2, though. Just in case.

4 hatched in the incubator, 4 under the broodies. One od the girl's babies died. So, I have 16 total cuckoo Marans to start my flock with! Two are blue cuckoo - one from each breeder.

Here is our youngest group of cuckoo Marans chicks that we hatched about 2 months ago, they are being babysat by their older sibling, the only one who made it through cocci. He has been doing a good job and seems to like them.
