OhBigMama: I REALLY hope that maybe my little white Maran is a hen, even though I've been sure since day one, that she was a roo. I can only keep her if she's a pullet, so here's hoping. I read WAY back on the thread that you got eggs from a 'John in PA' me too. John is quite a popular name, so it would be very weird if our chooks were related. Were your eggs from Southeastern PA? My 'John" also owns a vineyard, does yours?

Well when I left this morning I had a few out but I don't know what they are yet. I have some of my own eggs in there too so we will see.
I am not sure exactly what you gave me but some were wht/whe, some were wht/couldn't read, and I know you gave me at least one cuckoo. So it will be Christmas! I will let you know what I end up with.

Any guesses as to sex on this white? He is 5 1/2 weeks old. Does stance say anything? And.... any experts out there that know anything about eye color on these guys? I understand that the white's are not in the SOP, but that the Cuckoo may be soon, so what color do they want for Cuckoo? Thank you : )

might be a cockeral, take a look at his wattle- they look red

Just a quick question about the face fluff showing from the ear to the beak. Is this normal for this line of Marans ?

All I know is all Marans should HAVE THE SAME COLOR EYES, some will be dark at Juve stage and will turn as the age. Could we see a picture showing the feet feathering from the front ?

I would say cockerel because of the wattle size. Eye color with them is going to be just like with all other varieties. Orange Red. When they are young it is " bay" which is a greenish/hazel color. They turn orange red as they mature.

The cuckoo committe is still working on a few details fo the propsosed standard. Right now the main discussion is concerning shank color definition. Once we get it decided on I will post the proposed standard for them.

SNOWBIRD..This line does have a lot of fuzz on the chicks, they also tend to hold on to it longer even while developing their juvie feathers. They almost look bearded don't they? This is THE BEST line of whites.....period. John did an excellent job with them while he had them.
