Let's talk Cuckoo and WHITE marans... breeding strategies...

Blue Cuckoo is a project I have too. I have a little roo that shows no gold but little barring. I am also growing up some solid blues

may go that route with my Splash Cuckoo roo. IDK..... Leg feathering and egg color are my 2 big issues. I have some chicks from them growing up but some have gold

I just need to breed away from that I guess.
probably have to cull those showing gold out, my girls are laying a pretty egg color. It is so hard to post pictures and have it show the true color

Where did you get the solid blues from? I tried going that route and ended up with birds showing copper leakage and funky combs. I did keep 1 blue copper boy and should take a picture and post it on the Marans thread, he is starting to look beefy!

Quote: I was told there MIGHT be some copper leakage.... so I will just have to watch them. Anybody I would have bought SOLID Blue Marans from I would keep an eye out for gold or copper. It is just a given.

Show your eggs.... mine kinda SUCK! That is another reason I wanted some blues to improve the color. I need to sit down and have a plan.... but I first need to know what I have LOL Most of what I have to work with now is the chicks the blues and my cuckoos's. So I have some time.

, here is a picture of what we get, of course I think I have 3 out of the 4 eggs- had to look through the washed eggs in the frig as they are taking a break this week and not getting more than 1 a day!

took these with no flash under floresecent lighting, had DH look at the picture and he thinks its a pretty good representation.

I think my head is going to explode. I read all of the first 42 pages and the last 5 pages. I figured I should check out this forum since I just bought Cuckoo eggs off of DMRippy and another BYCer.

I was disappointed with the this first batch of eggs I got today. They are 2's and 3's on the egg chart. Only way to fix something is to breed for better. Thankfully this thread is here - I already learned a lot. I am looking forward to visiting here more often.

Welcome! there is lots to learn about the breed but here is a good start!

I am slowly working my way through this thread... Reyvaughn I am feeling your pain.

So here is a picture of my almost 4 week old.... Roo? What do you guys think? OMGoodness. I just looked at the pic after posting it. Who am I kidding? That comb is screaming roo, is it not?

Nicol- My eggs go to lockdown this weekend. 3 of the new chicks are growing well and looking good. I will wait at least another week before deciding for sure but I think I have my roo

. Can't wait to see what comes from the eggs!

Nice eggies!!

About the blue thing. I have solid blues from silver cuckoos no gold or copper in them. I have been working with them for a while wanting to cross them back to true blacks. Ijust can't get a roo. I found a really cool solid blue roo with some massive leg feathers that I am going ot put back with all of the blue splashes and blues next season. Yeah one more project...

I didn't want blue cuckoos. It appeared in one of two hens that were not from my original lines. I am trying to bring my cuckoos back to the original dark standard. I have crossed true black back into them two years ago this year I am getting nice dark bars on the roos and hens. It is nice to see something falling into place. I am eager to see eggs!!

I was trying to work on my whites but the rooster is broody. Seriously not just sweet talking the hens either. He has a few more days left until his first hatch. I let him have six eggs because eh wouldn't stop upsetting the hens when they were trying to lay. He would stalk them trying to steal their egg as soon as it was lain. Goofiest thing I have ever seen.

I am excited for you!!!! I can't wait to see pictures of the chicks...:)

I almost forgot that I gave you eggs too.

You are like me the one I posted standing with the car behind him now looks like a hen. I am not sure until they are crowing anymore.
