Let's talk Cuckoo and WHITE marans... breeding strategies...

It has to be from the wheaten. I wonder if you had a boy from the same batch that looked like a welsummer, because the girl is perfectly patterened like one.

Hens and Roos- most of the time you can tell by 6 weeks. If they aren't obvious boy, then I usually assume they are girls at that point. Mine get big combs sooo early. They're adoreable at that age.

What do you mean? I know that wells have yellow legs and these are definitely white legged. I will have to go look but I think most if not all in the brooder are french?? My wheaten cockerel was french as well as is the girl pictured above. Hmm.... maybe have to work on a new marans color!

Okay here are some updated pictures of the 2 babies I mentioned earlier. tell me what you see

these 2 are a bit on the wild side and don't like to be picked up so without DD to help, I had to take their pictures this way.

Did you have any boys that looked partridge (like a wellie), as opposd to wheaten? Isn't there just a slight difference in the wing triangle or something like that? I would find something to use the girl for, definitely!

that's what we are thinking too, because in the other hatch that is 9 weeks the 2 boys stood out by this age. The blue chick is slower to get the feathering in. Either way I am happy with what they are....now to wait and watch to see what happens with the combs

Oh he's sooo pretty. I might have to get me a wheaten roo. Or maybe a blue wheaten. We should get Illia over here to look at that pullet- she can always figure that stuff out.

When you see a dark bodied gold cuckoo male he would be a single does of barred. When you see the lighter/whiter colored gold cuckoo male he would be carrying a double dose of barring.

I believe this is a example of the double dose

Was wonder what everybody thought about these 2. I only have the pair so I am hoping there isn't any major flaws. I just wish he had thicker leg feathering.

Is Crele the same as Golden Cuckoo? If not, how will the inexperienced keep them seperated? I was told not to use any wheaten based birds in my GCs.
