Let's talk Cuckoo and WHITE marans... breeding strategies...

Yes - Melissa is "pasofinofarm" on BYC. The egg shipment was fine - no fault there other than shipping in itself. We had a few minor incidents that decreased the success rate - snakes in the nest box, me dropping a couple. I really would try again with Melissa's eggs if I can't find any from stock as good within driving distance - I really think the roosters I have from her are gorgeous.

I only have a photo of the one I gave away. His color was great, but his build was lighter than the other 2 that I kept. I will photograph them - as soon as their tails grow back after their molt. They are really calm, too - very nice dispositions.

Here's the one I gave away - when I look at this photo, I am questioning whether I should have kept him! He has a lot more gold than the ones I kept, and maybe he would have filled out when he matured.

Nice!
I have learned though- if you have several roos growing out together it can almost stunt the growth of the less dominant ones. Then when you take the lead guy out of the picture- voila! I am watching it right now with a blue Orp. He appears stuck at the 5 month mark

Well - that's interesting and makes sense. The one in the photo was definitely less assertive than the others. There was really no fighting among the GCM roos, but I did have a couple of others at the same time - one of which was smaller, but much tougher than all the others.

My boy is from Melissa's stock he is double dosed on the barring so lighter than yours.

I also have one hen from her but she is on the small size and neither had feathered shanks but do produce them.
