Let's talk Golden Cuckoo Marans!

here my F1 Blue silver/golden cuckoo
Blue shamrock ,a son of Shamrock over Bella ,blue copper hen.
he is correct in all the aspect except his comb . need a little tidy up .

best body marking of all the cuckoo cockerels I managed to raise this year .
true birchen marking ,nothing is missing .
rich hackle
well covered saddle
long and lush Lancet
fully colored shoulders .

he is going to sire a few 100 s chicks for sure .

chooks man

He is REALLY nice. I'd love to have one that looks that good. You said silver/gold, is that why his hackles are more of a silver/straw color? Does he carry gold and not express it? I guess I'm a little ignorant of the silver/gold relationship.

yes my friend he is S/s+
one copy of each .
the silver is dominant that why he is more silver/straw colored .
the presence o gold is making his silver turn yellowish .
he do have some golden feathers here and there .

for his progeny to be able to express the gold he has to be mated to a Black copper hens. ( only his daughters will be golden cuckoos and black copper s/-. - black and blue-) not his son s. they ll be like him half silver and half gold S/s+ .half barred and half unbarred .

love his body type and his dark copper , need more of it . but it is a correct tone .not washed out .
his comb need a little work at the back .i
his wattle are gorgeous .small .around .free from any folding or splitting .
eyes to die for

He did develop white on the tail feathers. I think that he comb is too big and his back too flat. He also seems shorter than the others I've bred, not much, but an inch or so.

The other blue golden cuckoos are showing potential though. I'll probably keep both and end up culling the black one pictured above.

@morbius18

I like this guy body thickness . solid head and flat tilted back .
I agree with you his comb is big but better than the comb of the blue ,coronation .
i don t like his tail angle ,plus the white .

I really like the depth of his chest and a correct cuckoo marking .
I think he is better to work with than the coronation blue cockerel .. personal opinion .

this guy complete your best blue cockerel .
if you just work the blue cuckoo ,you ll end up loosing the cuckoo marking .

if I had them I ll pair the black cuckoo to a Blue cuckoo pullet .both F1 and his mama a BLC hen to reinforce the type and the dark egg color.
and I ll pair the gorgeous blue cuckoo to the black cuckoo pullet .both f1 if I m correct !
like this you ll have 2 set of related but different F2 line to work with and 1 back cross line .

You are correct on all the f1s. I have 2 blue f1 cockerals, 3 blue f1 pullets, 1 black barred f1 cockeral and 2 f1 black barred pullets. They were the best of what I hatched.

Sounds like a good plan what you have suggested, I'll get a start on it this coming spring.
