Let's talk Golden Cuckoo Marans!

Pics
I'm getting some pretty eggs from my 8 GCM pullets! A few are lighter, more like a Barnevelder egg, but still pretty, a few are dark, and then I occasionally get one with a sprayer that quit.
Sometime, I'm going to do more integrating. When I split up these pullets into flocks (to avoid overcrowding), I could not tell the difference between the GCMs and the olive eggers. I guessed wrong twice, so now I'd like to swap them and get the all GCM pullets back with the only GCM rooster....
I had a GCM from Fitz Farm that laid half painted eggs like this fairly consistant. Pretty wild.

All the previous pics hatched from eggs this dark from the black copper hen. Trying to bring some dark egg blood in. I'd love to have eggs as dark as those. The other brown egg was what my cuckoo marans hens laid, but not enough to really be called a marans, hence me going with the black copper hen instead.

This picture really confuses me though.

Mine being a hybrid of a Golden Cuckoo and a black copper should have 1 copy of the barring gene and be dark. This hen in the background is a cuckoo, and is showing the darkness of one gene copy, so why are these so much lighter? Is there varying shades of darkness in the dark cuckoos? The more I learn, the more I get confused, lol.

Interesting. After a couple half painted eggs, she's laid a few regular ones, but she is a new layer so I've had very few eggs overall.

I checked them out, but was leery of not having adult pics for the gcm. It seems like tons of 'breeders' have roosters with white tail feathers.

Does anyone know of French Golden Cuckoo Marans breeders in AZ? I have one hen and two cockerels and really want more hens or pullets if possible.

Patti Jordan in Queen Creek. She has beautiful GCMs and hers have done very well in the AZ shows. She has a bunch of eggs hatching next week. Don't know if she's on BYC but she's on FB on the AZ BYC page and the Golden Cuckoo Marans page. She also advertises on Craigslist.
