Let's talk Golden Cuckoo Marans!

Pics
I see the dark eggs are from your Blue copper marans hen ?

You are correct, they are from a blue copper. I know if I pair her with my GCM rooster I will end up with black single barred and blue single barred offspring. I'd like to work her in to bring in that dark egg color. Plus as an interesting side project use her to create golden splashes.

hi Morbius.

That blue hen is your Golden mine. yeah is good idea that you x her to your GCM rooster . pick the black GC son and mate him again with his mam ( Blue hen) you will get another F2 son Single barred GCM cockerel 100% dark egg gene carrier

and you will get the Blue Golden Cuckoo Marans . Gorgeous bird.

you know what are you doing my friend.

you have all the ingredient you need to recreate the best Golden Cuckoo Maran ( the Black Golden and the Blaue golden Marans )

those eggs are easily number 7/8 if i m not wrong .you know the photo is never a real thing . you tell me please. how they look to you?

all the best with your breeding.

That was what my plans were for her once she started laying such a dark egg. I need to get a few more from the local breeder lady. She does really dark blue and blacks, but breeds only for egg color, so the form suffers. I'd call them a 6-7. I took a pic with an egg chart (light eggs are buff gcm cross):

1000

I've never seen a blue GCM, but know that blue and black barring should work the same as blue, black and splashs.

Thanks for the advice about what to do with the hen to get dark eggs in my GCM line.

She is an asset . you should create a cockerels line s from her; Black copper/ Blue copper/ Golden cuckoo single barred/ and a blue golden cuckoo single barred cockerels.

Because the genetic passe down quicker with a roosters ( they pass t to all they progeny 100%) make sense that we should focus on the cockerels line s and know not only they hatched from a dark egg but they carries the dark genes ( by crossing the cockerels to they mam - blue copper hen-a few time ) you will establish that .

a lot peoples focus in breeding the hen s .but that is not efficient .the cockerels are the way to go.

good luck. the golden cuckoo marans are in a good hands

I hatched my first batch of f2s over the past few days. I had a white chick show up. I haven't had any with the f1s, but had this guy with the f2s:
1000

When it first hatched and was wet, I thought great, I got a double barred male. When it dried off, it is mostly white with gray patches (light and didn't show in the pic).

I don't know if this means he is carrying recessive white, or if this is how ER based double barred chicks should look.

I'm Ok with it if it's recessive white as I can do a white marans line from him.

Looks like your birds carry wheaten? That is the color my wheaten Marans chicks are.
