that pretty feathered shanks .

I started my original cross with a pure featherless Rooster ( from the import stock UK ) the mother was a feathered type.

now in the cockerels I kept from the F2 two are feathered but dark type .I ll get a F3 double barred feathered shanks cockerel from them .

crossing them with a Birchen will help be fix t.

That is a pretty double barred cuckoo marans cockerel .I like his head Solid as a rock .his shanks are pretty feathered and thick . clear beak and shanks the way they should be.

are you still have him .ho is he P1 .F1, F2 .

I just placed an order with AVGEN Poultry ( this guys imported the rare chooks breed from the UK in 2014/15/16.for a 6 weeks old chicks of the following varieties . they are going to be ready in the spring Sep / Oct. to be shipped to be.
I ordered 4 cockerel and 4 pullets of the following varieties ( marans) Black copper and Blue copper ( both french type) plus the silver cuckoo ( English type really dark egg layer ).this are pure stock .they aren t cheap .but they every penny spent on them .looking forward to get them . I need this pure fresh blood to help me with my breeding program.

is going to be an exciting breeding season this year and the future. I m lovin t..

The double barred cockerel is an F2. I still have him, and he will be replacing one of my roosters, probably his sire. I bred my f1s with each other for one hatch before separating the hens. He is a F1xF1 cross:

I've now got 1 hen with her father trying to hunt down which hen carries recessive white, these two are the other pair:

I just put a batch in the incubator yesterday, as well as some F0 cross to the dark layer blue copper, hoping for a blue golden cuckoo:

I threw a few olive egger back in there from the ones showing nice gold to just see what happens, hoping for a double barred cockerel as the hens are golden cuckoo and the rooster is double barred golden cuckoo marans.

It cannot be cheap to import bloodlines, we're blessed here having so many to choose from, even if they are across the country (USA), still not importing them.

So he F1 x F1 = he s a true F2.
I like the true F2 progeny because the way the genes they recombined .some time they give butter progeny than they both parent. they call t in genetic the " the cross over " gene effect .

your double cockerel he s for sure a keeper and the breeder. I just breed him just for his head trait. impressive .I know he ve got a lot other quality but I can t get my head around his head. Gorgeous..

I m pleased you bred your Blue copper with your GCM Rooster you will get a good result .she lay really dark eggs and He s proven to passe down his dark eggs genes to his progeny..

and like I said to you before the Black and the Blue work very well together.

I ll love to see your B GCM F1 how they ll turn out.

you are doing a great job. if all the chooks breeders take they breeding seriously like you do we ll have no problem with ours chooks now.but I think many of them are busy doing some thing else.

I m aware the import chooks did coast money I don t mind paying t. I m actually pleased they took my order with seriousness and they give me a head start because the number of chooks I m buying from them and my request ( same number pullets to cockerels GOOD for them and me TOO. ) better genetic spectrum from Rooster than hen s.

The English cuckoo are E based bird so they are solid cuckoo not the French Silver cuckoo ER .so they are a good addition and good to recreate a Black variety ( not a black copper without hackle ) I mean pure E based Black bird.

take easy and keep doing what are you do .

Here is a line that I'm no longer breeding. I experimented with Golden Cuckoo marans over a buff orpington hen. I did 1 and ended with this hen:

I snuck a few more eggs into a GCM hatch and ended up with this cockeral. I'm guessing he is ER/Ewh. Nice looking boy that is very large. About 25% bigger than his GCM cockeral siblings.

I'm going to try to sell these as a trio, 1 cockeral, 1 hen and 1 pullet.

here my F1 rooster Silver/Gold dark cuckoo marans he s ER/eWh, S/s+, B/b+,Mh/mh+.MI/mi+,pti/pti,Id/Id. this are 3 of his son F2 .produced from F! X F1 . 1) oldest is Silver single barred 2) silver double barred 3) Golden single barred

I've also got another single barred cockeral about the age of yours. He has a nice body and feathering, unfortunately a few feather stubs on his middle toe. It happens occasionally with my heavily feathered legs.

I usually raise the cockerals out until they start mating my hens before selling, selecting for breeding or eating, so he still has a while. He's about 4 months old. This group is exciting for me, as there are 4 nice golden cuckoo marans pullets in this batch. I'll be increasing my hens count to a proper breeding flock.

your crosses with a buff Orpington carries the Dark Brown Db and the Dilute Di gene sthat why they have to much Golden even the chest witch should be Black with a cuckoo barring.

Stick to your GCM ( Black and Blue ) and you will have one of the best GCM line. specially when you get a Blue GCM from your hen.
I think an F1 BGCM cockerel hatched from her eggs colour 7 will be your best asset to establish a dark egg gene cockerels line.
keep crossing her single barred BGCM cockerels over her tell she stop breeding( hope she still young).

feathering in the inner toe mean we are moving from Pti1 ( single feathering gene) to Pti2 ( double feathering gene ) if you breed with without correcting t you end up with a Brahman type shank. Fault with a marans.

my friend you have a type the eggs colours just focus on the GCM and you will have the best line out there.plus your bird are the correct genome ER/ER not like the other GCM made up from different family genetic like e+, eWh, etc....
