LGBTQ+ Poultry Keepers

Ok so here's the deal. Most of my chicken keeping life I got production breeds as point of lay pullets. The first chicks I've raised were a pair of male aseel when I was much younger, and I did that basically without no clue of what to do. Besides that, I'd get some BYM chicks that were a month or so old. When I started being more interested in breeding and finding chicken breeds, I got the Tsouloufati from a hatchery. Small parenthesis here, Greek hatcheries from what I've seen have, if I dare say so, better quality birds than your average US hatchery. It also works a little differently, since they only sell month olds (the maximum age would be maybe 3 months in some instances, but it's usually 1-1.5 month). This also means that they come sexed. There are only two hatcheries in Greece that I know of, and one of them requires you get a male with your females (unless you're getting production breeds, then I'm not sure). The aseel I got from a breeder at 2 months old, and the serama at 10 weeks old. I think the only true adult birds I've ever bought are the brahmas, but then again I can't remember. So basically, this is my first time that I'm truly raising chicks
Very interesting journey you have had acquiring all your birds! Oh I am quite sure the hatcheries in Greece use much higher quality breeder birds than the US. Our standards here are not at all strict, birds are sold with genetic defects, no heritage breeds, risky business getting chicks from our hatcheries. I love the variety of unusual breeds you keep. ❤ Thanks for sharing all this! :)

The 4 year old who sat behind me was a complete monster! That was the worst flight of my life. It was really hard not to pour water all over this child or choke his mother. And his father was just snoring! He wanted the bagels, his grandma said: no bagels. He started screaming and screeching like some sort of a beast, his grandma kept arguing that he can’t have any (notice it was 12PM) and should go to sleep. He wasn’t buying it. He shouted frantically, kicking all three chairs on my row, standing on his chair and screaming: I WaNt ThE BaGlEs!!! He received crisps instead. A whole Pringles box, he ate them and started screaming again about the bagels. When finally the GRANDMA said she will not give him snacks tomorrow if he kept screaming, he stopped, two minutes later he started screaming about something else. He did NOT shut his mouth the entire flight. He did not stop kicking the chairs. Even after we’ve landed he continued screaming and screeching.
The flight attendants laughed when I said there was a monster in row 20, but they went to check, arguing it was JUST A BABY, so they can’t do anything… they then realized it was a child, not a baby, asked the mother to calm him down. She told him to be quite, didn’t work. Grandma told him that the plane police will put him in plane jail, he quoted down for 30 seconds, then started shouting again about how he wants chocolate milk.
That was a nightmare. I ran away and stayed in the toilet the rest of the flight, but my brother said, the kid f do isn’t stop screaming and kicking the chairS the entire flight.
I refuse to fly for just this reason, screaming kids and irresponsible parents.

So far it's another great day for Cruella and her brood. Today they got a small amount of finely cut pieces of grass. I'm pretty sure I've read some horror stories with grass, so no grass for the brooder babies. I figured however that Cruella knew best, so I gave them some, as I said. She only allowed her babies to eat the smallest pieces, and the bigger ones she ate herself. Then they sat and relaxedView attachment 3604864
Aww...❤ There's my daily dose of Cruella and her brood. :love The lighter chick looks like he's standing guard, as if he's saying to you.... "Step away from my mom, I'll rip you limb from limb if you come any closer!" :gig

Thank you, and of course! Don't think we don't have bad quality birds here, however, because we very much do! I too love the variety I have right now, even though I love keeping breeds and not many (because Cruella) BYM's, I love when I have more than one color to break up the monotony

I'm glad Cruella and her babies can brighten someone's day! You've said that one's a male from the start, and with that much persistence, I have to respect it now🤣

Definitely, I love a colorful chicken yard! So what breed is Cruella, is she a pure breed or a mix? I have never seen anything like her!! ❤

I really think it is a male. He's very independent, always standing at a distance. Look how tall he is...I am betting the farm on my guess.

The truth is.. I don't know. The bantams Shadrach had back in Catalonia (the reason I @ ed him on this thread a few days back) looked awfully similar, so I just refuse to believe its a random case of BYM. All u know for sure is that she's amazing

Oh boy (literally)! At least it's a pretty one, though the wrong color. Its winf development seem different to the other two, by the way. Much more nimble growth

We may never know her breed, however Cruella likes to be mysterious anyway. She sure IS amazing! ❤
