LGBTQ+ Poultry Keepers

We are indeed proud parents! Oh they're so pretty. I love bobwhites. Are they the ones mentioned in the mourning article? That nest is IMPRESSIVE! I didn't know quail were capable of this kind of nest artistry
I have always kept my birds in large aviaries unlike most people that keep them in cages. Caged quail rarely if ever go broody and never build nests. Mine went broody every spring and built nests everywhere. Quite elaborate ones too! They never stayed setting on eggs full term however, the incubator was my broody. :D

Do we need permits?
You probably wouldn't unless you have wild Bobwhites there. Where ever a wild species occurs you need a license to keep pen raised birds in the territory. Protects the wild species and they know who to come after if yours gets loose. :D

I LOVE quail aviaries. It looks so natural and amazing! It's so weird that they won't sit long-term. Have you ever tried to give a pair hatched chicks before they break?

OK so no permit for us. I actually have no idea what quail species are endemic to Greece

I don’t think I would need a permit

I have mine in hutches at the moment while finishing their aviary's/runs, it’s awful! So dusty. Sadly the runs won’t be big enough to put plants in 🙁 I can’t put plants anywhere I need to get to
Yes you do.
:lau Next poultry will be ducks! I just realised I do have a broody  can I put duck eggs under a chicken?

you do occasionally need permits if their aren’t wild ones, depends how damaging they can be to the environment if the escape

I don't keep quail anymore and converted my aviaries into chicken coops :D and I wished I had taken more photos but here is a few. Oh and all my hens gave up around day 14, these guys hatch around day 24, I never tried giving them babies, too risky, Bob's can be an aggressive species. Interestingly, Bob males will set too, some of my males sat longer on eggs than females!

Note the pair in the bucket, when I first got started I found these buckets made good nesting areas, places for them to lay instead of hunting for eggs under the brush pile...
