LGBTQ+ Poultry Keepers

A little late on the draw, but me and my wife are probably the only two women small farm/hobbyists in our location in VA. We live in a small rural town and really enjoy the fact that we're able to manage our farm ourselves, and often we have people tell us that they respect us more because we're two women running a farm. lol Funny enough, after I separated from the military it was always my dream to have a small farm and raise chickens. My wife is a city girl from CT but has a major in Equine Management and always wanted to move to an area where she could have horses and other large animals.

You're not alone, although sometimes it definitely feels like it.

:frow Welcome!

Thought I should give yall the final update in the Cruella saga. Ursula got a little too violent with the chicks, and the decision to separate them was made. I was not there at the time, but I was told that Cruella didn't complain much, they were 5 weeks old plus after all. Today Cruella was back in the nest for the first time again, I will update tomorrow on what that entails. Maybe an egg, maybe a test run, hopefully not a broody run so soon

@TwoCrows haven't seen you in here for quite some time. Hope all is well. Any planned hatches?
Hi Fluffy! :frow Yes I've been sort of AWOL for a few days not posting much, kind of laying low, a bit tired.

Lots of catch up on here, better go back and read some pages here!

I see in the above post you separated out the babies! Eventually they grow up and need to move on. Is Cruella broody again? Are you going to let her do another hatch? :jumpy

Ah, I hope whatever is tiring you is ephemeral. Yes, I did separate the spawn. Well not me directly but you get the gist. I don't think she's broody again, she hasn't even laid her first egg that I know of. And no, she won't be hatching again so soon. I'm going to wait a week, then introduce Lady Gaga. That's the plan for now, if she decides to sit, she'll be completely unassisted this time

I've been tired for days, probably just the changes in weather and or fall allergies.

Hopefully she holds off on the broodiness for a while, builds up her reserves and spends time being just a hen. I've found that my best broodies don't take too much time off though. If she goes broody after visits with Lady Gaga, I'd definitely let nature take its course this time and not assist her. She did really well this first time, she will no doubt get even better at it next time around.

Are the babies missing their mom? :D
