Exactly!

Cresting is when succulents stop growing vertically, and start growing horizontally. It mostly applies to species that grow horizontally in the first place. In cacti especially the result is a plant that kind of resembles a brain, or at least, to me. I believe they found that it's a way to conserve water, and protect the plants from the sun's harshest rays by staying farthest away from it
Very interesting! Makes a lot of sense too! Just like plants grow leggy trying to get to the light, it makes sense they would move away or not grow towards the light if it meant self preservation. Great facts Fluffy!

This sweet little racing pigeon has been resting at my work (in my pheasant corner) since yesterday. They were gone when I when up to see the birds tonight - hopefully they are away home!
We get them sometimes, but this is by far the most friendly one ever. So pretty too. I fed them som grains and water.

Aww.... What a sweetheart. ♥️ I hope she has found her way home!!! 😊

They are absolutely beautiful! It is weird how hard they are to spot with those bright colours, but they are a bit mystical.
Once you know their territory though, they become easier to spot I find.
Yes they are so camouflaged, and they know how to stay still and not move! Fascinating birds!

Ugh, I'm so jealous! I love hummingbirds, but we don't have those here either!
Yes, Hummers are only on this side of the world unfortunately. 😁 I used to go through 2 gallons of feed a day in the summer, loss of habitat and such has diminished their numbers immensely. I only go through a half gallon a day now. :hmm

That is unfortunately the reality of what we've done to the planet that is our home.

Is it possible to make hummingbird nests to help with local populations?
