If you are in the desert regions, central or southern part of Texas, Barrel Cactus will definitely survive. What part of the SE are you in? They love the blistering heat and sun. They don't survive our winters outside here in most of New Mexico, I have 2 Barrel Cacti in 2, 8inch pots, I think they are 8inch, might be 10 inch, I need to go measure them to be sure. :p They stay outside from spring to fall and come inside for the winter.
Dang :he :he :he
Naw, we're NE of Houston, swampy with high RE.
The search has started, and will continue!

I just Googled Barrel Cactus that can grow in SE Texas. Golden Barrels are a no, but possibly the Texas Barrel Cactus can grow in your area. Here is a page of Texas Cacti, you will definitely have to do your homework on this.

Your best bet is to go to a local landscape business and ask them what they suggest, if they plant cacti, they can tell you which species is the best for your area.

You are truly amazing.

Yeah, kinda saw that myself.
Hey, the search is is half the prize!

Okay, so it's been driving me crazy. I love this thread (actually looking at cool cacti now thanks to TwoCrows).
I love a sense of humor, dang near fell off my chair over this one.
Opinions?
Lots of cacti lovers in this thread! 🌵❤️

I feel this way about men sometimes and would rather dance with a woman. :gig
I don't know what's going on here, but I'm here for it. 🤠🌵💃💃 🕺🕺
Best of luck on the new job!
I actually got hired today, most folks don't take a chance on a 60+ year old redneck.
As I used to tell everyone, dress appropriately and be nice! :old
Congrats!
You're too kind. :love
My Missus gets (almost) all the credit.
She's been a bit down in the dumps lately, I'd like to get her something awesome that would flourish here, maybe something for an indoor office?
Or a spectacular outdoor?
I'm looking for wow factor.
I really love your Opuntia ficus-indica barbary fig (or whatever it is.) I've seen huge ones and I am super jealous! I think they are so cool--would love to have the street cred of one of those in my front yard.

If you're not looking to add more potted cacti, maybe you could do her a little outdoor cacti and/or hardy succulent garden? I thought the Houston Botanical garden had a pretty nice outdoor display. (There are some neat Mangave in Part 1.) (That Opuntia cochenillifera paired with whatever golden barrel-looking ones they planted there are just outstanding, I think.)

I'm not saying you should shop here, but there's a site called "Cold Hardy Cactus" that that seems to sell primarily that that might be good to browse.

Anyways, looking forward to hear what you decide on or narrow it down to!
