Thank you for your wonderful, calm explanation. I totally feel what you’re saying about feeling behind in AG. I’m currently going through the college application process, and it’s kind of freaking me out. I want to go to college for AG, but I’m worried about getting discriminated as a gay trans man. So even if I’m younger I relate to what you’re saying.

Will you be a freshmen in college? I started college at a pretty young age so this will be my senior year, The first bit of college can be pretty scary. But i believe people in our generation can be surprisingly very accepting of lgbt people. In my political science course I know a FTM who is also gay, He's probably one of the smartest/funniest guys i know, everyone in class loves him and couldn't care less about his transition. I am also openly Bisexual and i'm in a very loving/committed relationship with my girlfriend. And although we do regularly receive discriminatory comments, there are so many people in my life and even strangers who have supported me for who i am. The support i get definitely out-weighs the negative comments/opinions.
I think it's really awesome that you've made this thread and hope to see other people enjoy it as well~

I will be a freshman, although I’m thinking about taking a gap year to get some actual experience on farms or maybe even a cattle ranch if I can find one that’ll take me. Our generation is a lot more accepting, but yeah I also face some pretty nasty comments.

I am an old dude. I was formative when an earing on a guy was scandalous and a woman with a tattoo had better know how to work on a Navy diesel engine.
I also live in the bible belt, because that's where great-grandpappy bought me this land although he didn't know it then. His son, my great-uncle, had a chuckle and a head shake at that thought when I was 10, probably the rest of his life too.
Coming around to: everywhere are accepting people, everywhere are those who don't. You always have to pick and choose your company regardless of the aspect, you don't mix with bridge players to talk about playing poker strategy. While some are willing, they really don't have the insight you might look for. I am heavily discriminated against. My politics have brought scorn and shunning, and cost me substantially at work. Should I be resentful of any group because they disagree with me? Sue my employer? I am a type A personality I am told, that forces me into my political opinion because I don't want the fruits of my labor going to waste. It is not something I can help. So parts of me that don't need to interact with some folks doesn't.

Now in conclusion, I find that in order to sequester the type A part of me I must humble myself. I go outside into my chicken coop and stand among the manure from almost 100 of them. It brings me to my earth and shows me Gaia. Giai. like that or something.

EDIT/EPILOG: On this site, until we reveal our personal self we are all equal, either big chicken people, or little chicken people we share stories and ask about our chicken's problems. Snarky remarks seem so rare, confined to those who don't spoil their chickens. So the personal self revealed sets us apart, above, below, out on a limb. No longer equal. At least as a feeling goes that might be so. Before your reveal you were the same to me as most of those here. I pay attention to who might live near me, but my experience is most folks won't leave their chickens long enough.

I live not far from Seattle, a place that is pretty darn accepting of LGBT folks. I still face discrimination. I’m not going to get too detailed as it will get innapropriate for BYC, but I constantly have to watch my back. There are always people who want to take advantage of me due to my gender. I’m not a drama starter and I’m not someone who resents entire groups of people, but I have to be extremely careful going into an agricultural field because of my own physical safety.
