LGBTQ+ Poultry Keepers

Rainbows aren't reserved for gay people. :) Wear as many rainbow kilts as you want - they're lovely and beautiful and supportive. Just be prepared for people assuming your gay. XD

My only note about rainbow capitalism - it's nice to show support in public, but largely meaningless if the company isn't contributing to the community somehow. Examples might include hiring and giving promotions to lgbtq, using lgbtq designers, donating a percentage to charities, sponsoring PRIDE events, etc. Plenty of companies produce pride stuff just to make money. I've seen some places that are happy to produce pride items and put them right alongside confederate flags and nazi dogwhistle designs and the like, so I'd take care if that matters to you.

It's also OK to get something just because you want it for yourself to show your support. But something to think about.

Ope, I admit I didn't look at this specific company closely. :) Sounds like they're great.
Yeah, was just about to say they are actually LGBT owned and just publicly denounced the Proud Boys due to them wearing their stuff in photos.

Thanks everyone, I wasn't sure where it crossed the line between supportive and appropriation. I'm not worried about people thinking I'm gay, I'm wearing a wedding band so it's not like I should get hit on either way (I know it still happens but less likely) and my reaction would be more of a "thanks but no thanks" reaction rather than a "eew" kind of reaction so no harm either way.

I actually had lesbians fighting over me at work at one point, that was highly entertaining as it was a lesbian dom and a lesbian trans woman that were bickering about which one got to have me... I'm just going "uh... sorry ladies... I don't particularly want either of you... but I'm flattered none the less"

I think it only becomes appropriation if you're trying to misrepresent or claim something for yourself. It's pretty hard to appropriate from the gay community because 90% of what we do and why is "because we like it" and that's why most people wanna do stuff.

Hey @jolenesdad, how are you holding up right now? And how is your flock? It must be hard balancing BYC and Birds all the time 😂
Im doing great, thanks so much for thinking of me!

I actually got a mareks diagnosis in my flock this month, and I am battling a resistant lice problem. I think. I was a little stressed about mareks but I have not lost another bird yet, so it certainly is not a virulent strain I guess? We did histology and additional testing and it appears I have an immune-suppressing strain that while FAR from ideal, is probably manageable for me, it will just take out birds as they age or get stressed. Ive maintained a closed flock for quite some time, so I'm either thinking that I have had this for a WHILE and it may explain a couple of unexplained random losses of birds over the last year or so, or it came in on wild birds.

Since the flock is closed, I know the lice or mites or whatever we have going on came from wild birds, so mareks certainly could have. Or, I did buy a few 1-week old chicks last year. :-\ They came from a very well known, reseller, but I'm thinking that may have been the entrance point. They *only* sell vaccinated chicks and if it's an immune suppressing strain that isn't super virulent, I doubt there's much of any way for people to trace it back to them. There is one other person I know that also, though, like me, has maintained a closed flock for a VERY long time, but when they first started they bought pullets from this location and also have mareks in their flock.
