LGBTQ+ Poultry Keepers

Anyone else have an issue with dogs in the house? Like, all the slobber, running, barking, and stuff? I love dogs, but I realy don't like having any as pets. Anyone else feel like this?
The licking can be annoying, but personally I think it's a small price to Pay to keep them in the house. I get not everyone likes dogs inside though.

As for cats, I wash and wipe mine's feet when I see her in the litter box, and especially before she gets on the bed at night

I am a dog in the house lover - BUT I totally get it because I feel the same way about cats! Cats walk in their litter box and then got on the counters 🤢🤮 I will sometimes not eat food prepared in a house with cats because I get the ick.

So, even though it’s not with dogs, I am 100% with you. I get it completely! We all have our thing!
I don't like cats either. 😅 If I'm being honest, I don't like any inside animals (although I've had ONLY inside animals my entire life - except for the chickens, but that is a newer adventure). The older I get, the less I like the indoor pets. If you'd told me 20 years ago that I'd be a chicken lady in my 40's I would have fallen off my dinosaur laughing and stubbed my butt on my stone underwear! 😂

My chickens are the perfect pet in my eyes. They are outside, mostly self-sufficient and low-maintenence(I do give them quality feed, large pasture, safe housing, fresh water and regular health checks), they will hop up onto my lap when I sit in the chicken yard, and are sweet/friendly, but they don't *need* that attention (it's mutual 😄), and they pay me in beautiful fresh eggs every day!

Dogs...I don't care for the hair, the barking, or the slobbering either. BUT....I have always gone with the hypo allergenic dogs, ones that don't shed an undercoat. Dogs need to be trained to not bark excessively, if you don't want them on the couch they need to be taught, hyperness can be walked and trained out of them. It can all be done but you have to be vigilant, starting with a puppy is easier than an older dog and don't give in. It can take dogs to repeat an action hundreds of times before they learn.

I'm watching Bones right now, and one of my favorite episodes is on, "The He In The She". It's about a preacher who was a transwoman and left a giant, mega church before transitioning and starting a smaller, kinder church in a community. Granted it's an older episode (I think at least 15, maybe 20 years?), and so it isn't completely politically correct, but I think that the main characters did a decent job around the subject of a trans victim (they handled it better than they did with the nonbinary doctor in a later episode at least) and I love the message that the victim and her son carry with how they interact with their religion. It just.... gives me hope seeing how they are vs where they came from.

Dogs. I love dogs :lau . I like the hair, I like the hair in my house, I like their antics, I like the barking (when I don't have a migraine). What I don't love love is the grooming
Ugh, the grooming! My boys hair never stops growing so I have to get out all the tools once a month and cut, shave, trim, etc... and the claws! :barnie My boy used to be a biter with nail trimming he HATES having his claws done. With a TON of work on his mental state and bags of treats, I manage to get the nails trimmed now without being bitten, barely!

One of the rescues I'd fostered was a biter when it came to grooming. I got her a soft muzzle. It was that or she'd go flying across the room. ;)
I used a muzzle on Toby too, he saw it coming though and I had a very hard time getting it on without being bitten. He'd thrash and scream, it was a horrible scene. Finally he's calmed down now and does better without it.

My daughter's dog (5 month old Lab/Shep mix) broke her tether yesterday and went after all the birds!!! By the time I noticed (I'm not the one who put the dog out, it was my grandson who was more interested in his video game than checking on his dog), there were no birds in the yard, they had scattered.

Found a bunch of the ducks at the side of the road a ways up, and started to herd them back home. A passerby stopped and helped.

Slowly but surely, the ducks started returning from the woods. A few chickens, too, but those were much slower to come back. I thankfully didn't lose any of the 6 week old chicks.

There were yanked-out duck feather *everywhere*. Mostly blue ones, so when Mist, my pet Muscovy drake didn't come back, I really started to worry. :(

I was going around trying to clean up the mess that @!#$% dog made, when *my* dog started barking (my dog is well trained; he learned very early on that ducks and chickens are not toys! Or prey) I went to check what was going on. There was a vehicle in the driveway I didn't know.

Well, it was my neighbour (that I'd never met, since the distance between the houses is quite large) asking me if I'd lost a duck! I explained what had happened and he drove me to his place. It was Mist! Managed to catch him, and brought him back home. He wasn't damaged/injured that I could see. But wow, he had gone far! I'm just happy the neighbour came over.

Did a quick check of the ones that were there, and my blue female Muscovy seemed to have taken the brunt of the feather yanking. One of the 3 month olds also had a bunch of tail feathers missing. Otherwise, they seem fine.

All the chickens had returned by bed time, and I did a quick count of the ducks this morning and they all seem to be accounted for.

That dog needs training! AND proper supervision! :rant
