Chiggers are everywhere, they are in all 50 states but are more prevalent in the southern states and plains. Awful things that are invisible, they itch worst than 10 skeeter bites! It's supposed to be in the 80s in my part of Michigan this coming week which means more mosquitoes! It doesn't help that my property has a big (green) pond and is surrounded by woods - mosquito heaven up in here!! I told my husband we need more chickens just for mosquito control.
Oof to fleas! Fleas are worse than mosquitoes in my book. I don't know if we have chiggers around here... @Sally PB do we have chiggers in MI??
You'd know if you were bitten, they itch SO SO bad!!My mom used to complain about chiggers when we lived north of Traverse Citiy. I don't *think* I've gotten any chigger bites where I live.
I visited the St. John in the Virgin Islands several years ago, and I was bitten by "sand fleas" (maybe chigger-like?) on my feet - the itch was like nothing I'd ever experienced - I physically could not stop scratching, and I had scars on the tops of my feet for weeks! You'd know if you were bitten, they itch SO SO bad!!
Sand fleas are very similar to chiggers, they say its hard to tell the difference in the itch, both very intense. You can only tell the difference by looks of the bite. *Note to self* Never travel to St. John in the Virgin Islands.I visited the St. John in the Virgin Islands several years ago, and I was bitten by "sand fleas" (maybe chigger-like?) on my feet - the itch was like nothing I'd ever experienced - I physically could not stop scratching, and I had scars on the tops of my feet for weeks! If chiggers are anything like sand fleas, I hope I never experience their wrath!
Thankfully we don't have ticks out here either, ticks creep me out!One nice thing about the lack of water out here is we don't have a lot of parasites outside of tick's and mosquitos
St. John is one of the most beautiful places I've ever seen, but the sand fleas about ruined it for me!Sand fleas are very similar to chiggers, they say its hard to tell the difference in the itch, both very intense. Omg.... the ticks this year were also soooo bad! That was earlier in the summer. My property is a breeding ground for all the awful buggers!Thankfully we don't have ticks out here either, ticks creep me out!![]()
