Jacin, what would you say would be the maximum height that would be safe for chicks to jump? I'll be putting some soft cushioning underneath, but I'm afraid Lady Gaga will spread it all out :lau
Gosh, we had chicks fall like 8 or 10 feet into our hands a few times. I'm not sure if the extra 5 feet we saved them from falling would have been too much though. We never found chicks that didn't survive the fall, but we also could have easily missed them due to the magpies that are around taking them.

Could you get like a hay bale to put there? You could always use it for bedding afterwards, and it would save them a foot or so.

I find it utterly impressive. Those babies are going through a LOT at less than a day old
I just don't know where they summon up the courage, it just doesn't seem like a natural instinct.

Definitely make a soft landing area, maybe a couple of hay bales to land on.

Oh OK the distance it a lot less than 8 feet. A lot less than 2 meters. Probably around the 1.7 meter mark? Maybe even 1.5?

The ground is very hard, unfortunately. Hay bales I can sort of do, but both Lady Gaga and Ursula LOVE tearing them apart and spreading them everywhere
If you leave the tie wires or string on them, they should stay pretty whole? Plus 2 side by side will not only make a good landing spot for her and babies but a launching point for her to get up too. She will take better care of herself if it's easy on her.
