Hopefully not. All the boys are going, and the girls...we will see. I'd keep the most pretty with their mother. I've been considering doing a 24/7 free range flock with them, since they can fly, forage, hide, and run extremely well, and this is a very low predation area. But I don't want them breeding with the Tsouloufates

Definitely if you have broodies and babies, you can't keep them all! Come spring time, you should be able to give away chicks and youngsters easily. Free ranging them is a great idea!

I'd really love to see what they'd do out on the property, I just want to take that life from the Tsouloufates, some have been doing it for 3 years nonstop! Hope I'll have some takers. The boys could theoretically be eaten, although I don't know if they'd be large enough. I do know that I won't be the one to do the butchering though, I'm too soft

Wow, 3 years, that's a long time! Wild birds for sure but most likely very hardy and adept at survival! Pretty cool!

I can't butcher either, I could never let them see me take their lives.

I always thought I could never butcher either but then I had some sick ones that had to be put down humanely and yeah. And then from there, I had to put down some healthy ones as I had too many males. And then I even eventually raised and butchered quail.

Yup! They have access to the coop (so nests, food and water), and they sleep in there, but other than that, they're on their own. In two different instances one had

been forgotten outside of the coop for a week with access to water (we were out of town) and she did great. They seem to be really good foragers.

Exactly the same for me.

I don't consider euthanasia as butchering. You butcher to eat. You cull/euthanize to spare their pain and suffering (of course you can cull for other reasons, but we are talking about it in this context). Both of them involve killing, but one is for our "benefit" if you can call it that, while the other is to spare the bird's pain. I will do that if it comes to it. Don't know how I'll bring myself to do it, but if I bring them into the world, I can't keep them here if they're slowly and painfully dying

Once the serama hens start laying, I'm going to put them in the breeding pen with Scout. He's a silkied serama so I'm hoping to do a little project.

Are these the same hens the roosters aren't mating? If they're not laying, then the boys aren't really going to be interested in breeding them. Good luck on the silkied serama, they're ADORABLE

That makes sense!! Good point!!!
