anyhow! Is there a specific reason you're wanting a male?

Well one of my dogs is a malamute, and malamutes notoriously have same sex aggression, so most people reccomend having male and female dogs together instead of male and male or female and female, so that they have a better relationship with eachother-
This hasn't really been the case with Storm, she loves all dogs. She especially loves my second female dog. But I think that's more because she was raised around her so has a respect for her. I just want to be on the safe side, so I figure I'll add a male dog rather than risking a new girl. Plus I've never had a boy dog, and feel like it'd be a nice change

That is a very valid point. I was thinking you'd have to find ways to separate them when the girls had their heat cycles, and then remembered "oh right, they're probably spayed"

Thank you! Pretty sure they're one month old as of today! Let's see how long they keep them this time, since Ursula wasn't co-mothering last time, and was pretty rough with them from the 5 week mark and onwards

Long haired dogs are BEAUTIFUL when they're well-groomed. I know I'd never be able to keep up with that, so we've always had short-haired girls.

One family I babysat for had a collie that was... less than well-groomed. It made me realize that there is a lot of work involved with keeping them as beautiful as they can be.

Absolutely. Longcoated dogs are amazing, and gorgeous. But I too, can't deal with the grooming. Some people love it. I'm not one of those. That's the only reason I won't get another Cavalier

Y'all I have made a decision on dog stuff
I've decided on a.....
Border collie!
Because why settle for energetic when we can have insane intelligence and craziness?

Truly though, I have a lot of experience with border collies, including exercising them for people, so it's all good.
And I made another decision, I was looking for a good breeder, when I realised how commonly young collies are given up. I saw an ad online for a 9 week old collie pup, who had only just been bought, and the person had immediately regretted getting him.
More commonly they go through that teenage phase 3-18 months and get given away very commonly at those ages. So I'm going to wait until I find the right pup online, and go pick them up. That way they're technically a rescue and find a good home to get the exercise and stimulation they need

So if anyone was interested last time I mentioned my hopes for a new dog, this is the update. Idk when, as I have two other dogs to prioritise and a move to go through. But I know when I do it'll be a male bc and I'll find one that needs a good home!
I lovvvve my dogs, but one is very much an old lady in need of retirement, and my younger girl is brilliant but I'm specifically hoping for an agility dog, and potentially a psychiatric service dog. Whether or not they get qualified, I'm hoping I can at least take them with me to dog friendly places to help me. (Obviously not to other places if they aren't a real service animal, I know how bad that is).
Funnily enough, both my current dogs are rescues, I didn't ask for either, but they ended up in my life and I can never lose them. Im excited to get to choose my next one though!

If you do get from someone rehoming a puppy specially a 9week old one they just got, they probably won’t be well bred, unfortunately because they are quite a popular breed there are a lot of bad breeders. You probably know all ready the breed has a tendency for nervousness, noise sensitivity and being unable to calm down.so chances of a rescue border collie being able to do assistance dog work is quite slim. Good luck with your puppy when you get one! (I wish I got a border collie instead of a springer )


also there is no registration or qualification need for an assistance dog in England

My oldest is. Admittedly, and terribly, my younger girl isn't. That was my parents responsibility and I've been pestering them to take her to the vets for it for months, they wait until she's in season and then we have to wait again for her hormones to balance. I don't have a car so I rely on them and they've been consistently letting me down.
The worst part is, the person who originally bought her, the one who later abandoned her in the countryside (we got to her before the pound did) that guy bought her specifically to breed from. Until she couldnt produce more litters and then she would be gotten rid of. She was chosen to be part of a puppy mill essentially, but thankfully she ended up with me...

anyways, back on topic, we have spoken to the vet recently and he said we can book it in a couple months, soon as her hormones are back to normal (and they can feel sure she isn't pregnant, they don't trust owners on that).
So yeah, very bad but she'll be spayed before the move and long before any boys! (Who will also be fixed).

I considered a poodle while researching all the dog breeds, and giant schnauzers (they're gorgeous), so the grooming doesn't bother me, but it's always a pretty big commitment! Some people rush into long coated breeds, or specific fur types, without considering how much time goes into keeping them clean and mat free!

I love giant schnauzers but they are so difficult and high maintenancehalf one is enough
