LGBTQ+ Poultry Keepers

You've got this!

If you're not sure, you could post a picture to confirm that a chop is indeed needed. If you're trying it, make sure you have a tool that will chop it immediately, instead of having to chop multiple times

Apologies for taking an HOUR to respond! I had the reply ready, thought I pressed "post", but apparently didn't!

So they're better at communicating than some people? Who would've thought:D!

Not that I'll ever get a tarantula, but what species would you recommend to new keepers?
I think that's the case with any animal. Humans generally suck at most things, especially communicating! 😁

Any Brachypelma, Tliltocatl or Grammastola species. Or in general any from the new world. Asian and African ones are spicy!

Ive seen them in the wild kind of stand up on their hind legs when threatened? Do yours shoot spikes at you as well? Ive heard these wild ones do this to defend themselves, as in if a cat or dog got too close they shoot spikes in the eyes. 😱
Yes, standing up and displaying their fangs is a threat posture. Don't mess with them when they do that. Normally they will also "slap" the ground to warn you off. They really, really don't want to bite. <3

It is not spikes, they just waft irritating hairs from their bum at you. It can be pretty itchy but it's not so bad. You can tell a tarantula lives in a stressful environment if their bum is bald. <3

:hugs

Anything exciting coming up?
Yes and no. I have a cavity fill coming up that is stressing me out really bad, and then the day after I have a testing block and then a meeting with my therapist afterwards.

But I have a fiber sale that thursday-sunday that I'm looking for

I've heard something about some tarantulas throwing their itchy bum hairs when they get attacked, but wow! Glad we don't have wild tarantulas here, the dogs would suffer!
Yeah, that's what they do! 😁 But honestly they mostly just run away and you hardly see them. Most of my ones are just a jar of dirt!

Didn't they use to use the hairs to make itching powder?

That's great! Focus on the good stuff, and try to "skip" the bad day by not thinking about it as much as possible.

Dental appointments make my anxiety go crazy too
