Hi, I just want to thank you for your interest about the LGBT community. The person you know of probably just has poor character; because as you know in society there are good people and bad people. But as for your questions; here is some of my knowledge.Hmm. I prefer zero romantic relations (better off alone, and with my dogs), but am straight.
Only since this is in the random threads, here's my experience; I know of a guy who dates other men, he likes to flaunt his, decisions, & has poor character; I do not like to talk to him because also have heard him badmouthing other well-meaning folks. However, (since I have asked him; bad experience) I do not understand how someone can be attracted to another man or such. Is this natural? Is this an evolutionary concept and is the whole LBQT+ thing, like, modern? Trying to wrap my head around this, I have always been sheltered/live under rock.
Thanks for explaining folks![]()
How can a man be attracted to another?
Men being attracted to each other has alway existed; ever since the prehistoric times. Prehistoric human groups; men tends to stay together in a settled area. Their only companionship were other men. It was bands of women who usually trekked long distances to "mate" with male bands elsewhere to spread the human gene pools, that is why when we study human DNA today we always look at the maternal chromosomes first. But male prehistoric humans; usually stuck together in hunting parties and it was usually for a long period of time. Human being a social creature needs other humans to communicate with. So the band of men only had each other. They took care of each other, loved each other, bonded, and so on. Then comes Ancient Civilizations. In most ancient civilizations being gay and bisexual were normal. For example in Ancient Greece homosexuality and bisexuality was extremely normal. There is Achilles and Patroclus; the two were good friends and lovers; although Achilles did have children with women, but that was his duty as royalty to pass down his lineage; but he remained devoted to Patroclus. That is why during the Trojan War; when Hector killed Patroclus, Achilles avenged him by slaying Hector. A lot of Ancient Greek gods had homosexual relationships; for example Apollo and Hyathincus, Poseidon and Pelops, Hermes and Krokos, Dionysus and Adonis, Zeus and Ganymede. Those were all famous and touching love stories of the time. Alexander the Great was also bisexual; he and his general Hephaestion were lovers; Alexander also had a Persian eunuch lover named Bagoas. Hephaestion and Bagoas died in 324 BCE of illness and Alexander died a year after in 323 BCE. Some say he died of heartbreak because the two people he loved died. In Ancient China, homosexuality was also normal. During the Warring States era; the King Anxi of Wei and his lover Lord Longyang 龙阳君 were notable gays of their time. That is why homosexuality in China are named after Lord Longyang. During the Han Dynasty; Emperor Ai of Han and his lover Dong Xian were another famous pair of lovers. The term "cutsleeve" in China also stands for gays. The story goes; that Emperor Ai did not want to wake Dong Xian up when he had to do attend a meeting so he cut his own sleeve to let Dong Xian sleep. In Ancient Rome; the Roman legions were filled with bisexual men; the Roman legion system every soldier were connected to people in their regiments. They had a deep bond; and sometimes there were human "necessity" that needed to be dwelt with and they only had each other. So yes, men can be attracted to each other. Even today a lot of straight men who goes to the gym are attracted to other men at the gym. They admire each other's muscle and see each other as inspiration. It's perfectly normal.
Is this natural?
I would say yes. In Africa, chimpanzee groups often have alpha head males mating with males lower in the group; one to show dominance and two to maintain a bond. If you believe in science and the human evolution, chimpanzees being human's closest ape relative shows that this is perfectly natural. This exist in the entire animal kingdom. You see male lions "mate" with each other to maintain their bond. You see it in wolves; alpha male wolves mount beta males to show dominance and strengthen the bond of the pack. It even exists in chickens society. You have a dominant rooster that would mount the secondary one to show dominance and strengthen bonds.
Is this an evolutionary concept and is the whole LBQT+ thing, like, modern?
The term LGBTQ is a modern concept; but homosexuality and bisexuality are not. It has always existed around the world throughout history. My next statement is not me trying to bash religion; but it was the rise of Abrahamic Religions like Judaism, Christianity, and Islam during the Middle Ages that started branding homosexuality and bisexuality as something bad. It was these religious institutions coming up with these rules to better control the people. Who were the richest people during the Middle Ages? It was not the monarchs and nobles. It was the churches; and where do they get their wealth from? People they controlled. If you study the ancient forms of Judaism (meaning during the time of Ancient Egypt), Christianity (during the time of Ancient Rome), and Islam (during the Eastern Roman Empire); none of the leaders mentioned anything about homosexuality and bisexuality being sinful; because it was social norm during their time. It was those who controlled the religious texts long after their death, said it was sinful. Most ordinary people were uneducated and if the Church says it; it must be true. In polytheistic countries it was still normal. Then during the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries, when the western world started colonizing the polytheistic countries; they forced a the macho ideology upon the people they colonized. Love equals one man one woman. It is considered civilized. Be Christian, you are civilized. You are polytheistic, you love men, you love men and women; you are uncivilized and savages. This got branded into colonial societies; and by keeping the colonials ignorant; western Empires linked human reproduction to romance. So that is why you get a lot of former colonial countries banning LGBTQ today; most notably in Africa and South Asia is because of this. The United States was no difference; they did the same thing to Native Americans. In Native American society; one could be born gay and bisexual; it's natural it is what mother nature bestows upon them at birth. But American missionaries saw that as uncivilized and un-American so they sent those natives to Religious Camps. Those camps are extremely inhumane; think of being thrown into a medieval torture chamber. So a lot of people started to think like their conquerors. Then we head into the late 19th century and 20th century; with Industrialization; machoism became the norm in society. A man must have a wife and children; you must work in a factory. Your wife must stay at home have children and do chores and do what her man says. If you were born in the 20's, 30's, 40's, 50's and 60's you were brought up in those type of atmosphere. It wasn't until the 70's after the Vietnam War did LGBT come back to the limelight in society because of the Hippies. The Hippies; let society know that what those macho people up top says is not always correct. LGBT continued to be seen as a type of "sickness" because people in charge saw that LGBT were linked with hippies; who were challenging their authorities. There were a lot of crackdown and persecution of LGBT in the 80's and 90's. It wasn't until the 21st Century did improvement come; when a lot of people changed their views usually after the death and suicide of one that were close to them.
