it will probably depend on what style trap and what critter you have while K-9's can be caught in live traps the live traps for b'cats grey and red fox need to be fairly large 15-18" tall 15-18" wide 36-48" deep smaller traps will catch possum coon and skunk easily but foxes and yotes are a bit more wary trapping K-9's it does,nt hurt to have a trap with both ends open

You have a bobcat.

the best way to trap it is to find it's fresh leftover kill, a good LGD can help you with that, set the trap where you find it hidden carcus ,cover the trap well with debree from the area, the cat will be back for the kill, usually the next day.

I caught this one with it's own kill within 24 hour.
she went in and out of the trap before finely grabbing her stash, then she was caught.

One of my dogs terrized her before she bent the trap door and let her out, but i have not lost one duck sence feb, that dog put the fear of dogs in that poor cat.

I do hope you are able to catch the critter, sorry for your losses, i know how it feels:hit

problem is I have not bee able to find the left over chicken it has killed. I search and search all I ever find is feathers. Its been over a week now and it has not been back. No cages has been tempered with and no prints and the trap has not been touched.

maybe??

over a week ago when it took my rooster their was prints but it was so muddy we could not really get a good print of what it was.

The print we did see looked like a dog print so maybe?

Here is the temp cage I had the rooster in that the sucker broke into.

It's not the best looking cage but its something I made for to keep chicks in and momma hens with chicks has worked wonderful for me over the years keeping snakes and other things out. I guess its so old and been used so much I didn't realize the top had been broken away from the top where it once was threaded together with metal wiring.

(Yes it is a table turned on its top) HeHe

It was also covered by a tarp but I'v removed it to do some work on it. As you can see it didn't try to tear through the wire but it climbed or jump inside went inside got the rooster and came back out. I found NO feathers inside the cage but on the outside about 2 feet from the cage.

Try calling your local animal control folks. I know mine are very friendly and really know the ins and outs of the predators that lurk
in our area. Your animal control folks might also help provide more traps and appropriate bait geared to whatever particular predator you might have.
good luck!
