LIars, not layers, WHY?

I'm thankful my chickens don't know the "egg song". And I hope they don't figure it out. Quiet chickens are good for my neighborhood. ;) I would have been excited to hear it before I got any eggs though, just like everyone else waiting on that first egg.

Hope yours don't learn it... That's been chronically stressful for many poultry owners with close neighbors. Plenty of threads on this site about it.

Best wishes.

My white leghorns often make a bunch of noise right after laying. Not while in the nesting box, but after hopping down and going out into the chicken yard. Seems like they were announcing their eggs. I wondered why they did that...

I am so eggcited! Two of my girls squatted for me today!! They are 27 weeks old, no eggs yet, and for the first time ever they don't go running from me like I have a cleaver in my hand!!! Eggs soon I hope!!!

Well, if it's any consolation, chooks that start a bit later tend to go for longer.

Of course that's not a golden rule, but taking the time to grow their bodies properly before producing generally means they will do better, for longer.

Best wishes.

So I have 2 chickens (small urban yard) one went broody and sat on a clutch of eggs until the recently hatched. Thru that whole process my other chicken has not laid ONE single egg!!! I moved the hen and her babies to a different coop to be safer and its been 3 days and the hen in the original coop still hasn't laid any eggs!!! Has she just never laid eggs and I haven't noticed? Between the 2 of them I always got one egg a day for a totall of usually 6-7 eggs a week. Should they both belaying everyday and the one hen was just fooling me??? I need some help!
