My broody hen is infested with lice and I treated her and changed the bedding but she still has some, but the thing is my baby chicks were suppose to hatch Sunday and they decided to hatch today!! I checked the oldest and he has lice on him already!!! I'm going today to get poultry lice dust from the feed store, I'm planning to dust her new nest underneath and dust off momma hen and pull off the knits!! Could I dust the babies off to? There completely dry

You'll have to if you want to get rid of them, I think. Plus they will need re-dusting in 10 dys or so to kill the eggs which will have hatched by then. A lot depends on what the ingredient of your poultry dust is. Here is a paper on this:

Welcome to BYC!

Yes, you need to do something about these lice. They will suck the blood and drain the life right out of the birds.

Here is a good thread on ways to get rid of lice on chickens. I wouldn't wait too long to take care of this issue as it can get out of hand and harder to control....

Good luck with this and I hope you can get this cleared up soon. Welcome to our flock!

I just dusted the hen off!! I really can't see the lice anymore I was wondering if I put a little bit of poultry dust on the day old chicks?

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! When did you dust the hen and the area? Dying lice may move around and you may see them, does it look like the adult ones on the hen are dead?.
