Lice? human shampoo??? *help please!*

So far so good, for the first time she is preening, clucking, walking around and such. So she must be feeling better.

Her feathers are taking super long to dry though? Last time blow drying worked pretty fast...maybe it is the oil? I will have to wait until she is completely dry to tell if there are any survivors.

Her beard feathers have white clumps on them..would those be the eggs? such a strange spot. Cant find any on the vent or anywhere else

Yes those clumps are eggs. Eggs hatch in roughly 7 days from the time they are laid - which is why you will want to bathe or treat her with some type of lice killing powder - weekly.

I am so glad to hear she is feeling better - I am sure she is VERY happy to be feeling better!

I am sorry you are going through this...the human lice shampoo you purchased should have a little comb in it...you can use that, while she is wet to comb most if not all of those eggs out of her beard.

How much ivermectin did you put on her? A couple of drops on her back and then repeat in 10 days...that is standard worming and it should work well in conjunction with everything you so.

You could also get nail scissors and simply cut out the egg sacs--then there is less chance of any of the eggs hatching and maturing to continue the cycle. Her beard will regrow when she molts.

Best thing for any bugs is one or two drops of frontline directly on the the skin about one inch near the vent. you bird will have no bugs with in 45 min and it will keep them off for over a month!! I found out about this from a bird keeper at the Zoo near where i live!!

DE will work for prevention, but for an infestation like you have, you need to take more serious action (as you have)

i don't know about ivomec, but when using Sevin, you would reapply 10 days after the first application. do not spray them with liquid Sevin. you can spray their coop with it, saturate it, just let it dry before you put them back in.

to dust the birds, get 5% or 10% Sevin dust. it should be available anywhere there is a yard and garden section, as i would guess it is the most popular insecticide available. you can put it on your vegetable plants, and eat the vegetables soon after (do not know the withdrawal period for certain).

it took care of my lice infestation. since applying and reapplying, i have been sprinkling their coop with DE, and it is working great so far!
